HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 2
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE 1
WARREN CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL BOYS AND GIRLS SWIMMING TEAMS AND COACH 2
TERRY WONG UPON WINNING THE 2025 MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL 3
ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS II STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS. 4
WHEREAS, the Warren Central High School Vikings Boys and 5
Girls Swim Teams made school history, as this was the first state 6
championships won by these remarkable teams, by capturing the 2025 7
Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class II 8
State Championship; and 9
WHEREAS, this historic feat for these talented teams 10
solidified Warren Central's having one of the top swimming 11
programs in the state, because prior to the state championship 12
wins, the boys' team won three consecutive district championships 13
under Coach Wong's leadership; and 14
WHEREAS, during the state championship meet, which was held 15
on October 18, 2025, in Tupelo, Mississippi, the girls' team came 16
away as co-champions with West Jones High School while the boys' 17
team finished in first by 20 points over their runner up, Pearl 18
River Central High School; and 19

WHEREAS, notably, the girls' team of Kara Rowe, Addison 20
Billings, Avery Greer and Ella Opperman won the 400 freestyle in a 21
time of 4:08.10 - 11 seconds ahead of West Jones - to force the 22
tie at the top of the team standings, and the girls' team of 23
Sicily Smith, Rowe, Greer and Billings won the 200 medley relay 24
in a time of 2:04.69; and 25
WHEREAS, the boys' team won two relays, first taking the 200 26
medley relay in a time of 1:49.20 behind the quartet of James 27
McKenna, Thomas Kilroy, Ace Orosco and Jacob Byrd, and the boys 28
won the 400 free relay in a time of 3:34.07 with this same 29
foursome but with a different order of McKenna, Kilroy, Byrd and 30
Orosco; and 31
WHEREAS, although the boys and girls teams in their entirety 32
were dynamic in their performances, as they won four relay events 33
and had 19 top-four finishes, additional honor was bestowed upon 34
Avery Greer and Jacob Byrd who won individual titles in the girls 35
200 yard and boys 500 yard freestyle, respectively; and 36
WHEREAS, the Vikings swim teams have been superbly coached 37
and inspired by Head Coach Terry Wong who has broadened and 38
refined the team members skills in execution, which has cumulated 39
into a history making dual championships for the Vikings and 40
speaks great volumes of his outstanding leadership that ultimately 41
inspired these winning teams; and 42
WHEREAS, the Vikings have been supported in their athletic 43
endeavors and can attribute much of their success to the 44

administration, staff, many parents, fans and overall supporters 45
whose moral and spiritual encouragement remained fervent 46
throughout the season; and 47
WHEREAS, the Vikings have developed a winning and cooperative 48
spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities 49
and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual team members 50
and Coach Wong and bring honor to Warren Central High School; and 51
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize 52
and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of 53
our state such as the Warren Central High School Vikings swim 54
teams, who are its future: 55
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 56
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING 57
THEREIN, That we commend and congratulate the Warren Central High 58
School Vikings Boys and Girls Swim Teams and Head Coach Terry Wong 59
for their outstanding season, for winning the 2025 MHSAA Class II 60
State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their 61
athletic endeavors. 62
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 63
furnished to Warren Central High School, Coach Terry Wong and to 64
the members of the Capitol Press Corps. 65
