30-YEAR ANNIVERSARY, HONORING THEIR SUCCESSES, OUTSTANDING WORK 2
WITH THE BETTER LIFE FOUNDATION AND SUPPORT FOR OUR TROOPS. 3
WHEREAS, formed in 1996, Grammy Award®-nominated 4
multiplatinum Mississippi rock band, 3 Doors Down, has captivated 5
audiences worldwide for nearly 30 years; and 6
WHEREAS, current members of 3 Doors Down are Brad Arnold and 7
Chris Henderson; and 8
WHEREAS, the band's numerous accolades include selling more 9
than 20 million albums globally, receiving a Grammy nomination, 10
two American Music Awards, and five BMI Pop Awards for 11
songwriting, including Songwriter of the Year, and their debut 12
album, The Better Life, became certified seven times platinum by 13
the RIAA and was fueled by the success of the hit song Kryptonite; 14
and 15
WHEREAS, notable songs by 3 Doors Down include Here Without 16
You, When I'm Gone, Loser, Duck and Run, It's Not My Time, Away 17
From The Sun, Be Like That, Let Me Go, and more; and 18

WHEREAS, 3 Doors Down established The Better Life Foundation 19
in March 2004, with the mission to make a positive difference in 20
the lives of children and young adults, and the organization is a 21
501(c)(3) federally tax-exempt charity; and 22
WHEREAS, for nearly 20 years, 3 Doors Down hosted a benefit 23
weekend that served as the primary source of donations and funding 24
for the foundation, and to date, the foundation has raised and 25
distributed over $5,000,000.00 to reputable children's charities, 26
local municipalities, and faith-based groups dedicated to helping 27
communities and children in need; and 28
WHEREAS, in 2005, when Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans, 29
Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast, The Better Life 30
Foundation committed to donating funds and providing support and 31
relief to southern Mississippi, which was largely overlooked by 32
the press and media, and working directly with local 33
municipalities, the foundation provided funding to support 34
rebuilding efforts and purchased fire trucks and police cars; and 35
WHEREAS, the artist, music community, and luminaries from the 36
world of sports and racing have rallied around 3 Doors Down and 37
their efforts through The Better Life Foundation for nearly two 38
decades, and past guest performers at the benefit weekend have 39
included Lynyrd Skynyrd, Tracey Lawrence, Shinedown, Staind, 40
Hinder, Sara Evans, MuzikMafia, Daughtry, Theory of a Deadman, 41
Jamey Johnson, Seether, Collective Soul, Candlebox, Saving Abel, 42
and more; and 43

WHEREAS, a significant chapter in 3 Doors Down's exceptional 44
career was their support for the Mississippi National Guard, and 45
the band was commissioned by Colonel Mike Jones to write the 46
lyrics for the song Citizen Soldier, which became the rallying cry 47
for National Guard recruiting after the September 11 attacks, and 48
the song played a crucial role in boosting recruitment during a 49
time of historic troop mobilizations for Iraq and Afghanistan, 50
elevating National Guard soldiers and airmen to national 51
recognition; and 52
WHEREAS, furthermore, the band's partnership with the 53
Mississippi Army National Guard has fostered ongoing initiatives 54
to raise awareness of the National Guard and support recruitment 55
efforts across the United States, and initiated through personal 56
connections and advocacy, this collaboration has resulted in one 57
of the most successful recruitment periods in the history of the 58
National Guard, demonstrating how music and service can come 59
together for a greater cause; and 60
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize 61
extraordinary Mississippi musicians, especially those such as the 62
members of the band, 3 Doors Down, whose tremendous success and 63
service to the United States brings honor to Mississippi and our 64
nation as a whole: 65
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 66
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING 67
THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize 3 Doors Down upon their 68
