A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE 1
MISSISSIPPI FORESTRY COMMISSION UPON THE OCCASION OF ITS 100TH 2
ANNIVERSARY AND HONORING ITS CENTURY OF SERVICE TO THE STATE OF 3
MISSISSIPPI. 4
WHEREAS, the Mississippi Forestry Commission was founded on 5
March 6, 1926, to provide leadership in the protection, management 6
and conservation of Mississippi's forest resources, and for the 7
past 100 years, the agency has steadfastly protected communities, 8
supported rural economies, and ensured Mississippi's forests 9
remain healthy and productive for future generations; and 10
WHEREAS, over the past century, the Mississippi Forestry 11
Commission has served the citizens of Mississippi by protecting 12
lives, property and forestlands through wildfire prevention, 13
suppression and emergency response, while promoting sound forest 14
management and stewardship practices; and 15
WHEREAS, Mississippi is home to approximately 19 million 16
acres of forestland, making forestry a cornerstone of the state's 17
economy, environment and quality of life, and the Mississippi 18
Forestry Commission plays a critical role in sustaining these 19

working forests, evolving to meet changing needs while continuing 20
to provide essential services that support jobs, landowners and 21
local government; and 22
WHEREAS, the Mississippi Forestry Commission is unwavering in 23
its commitment to its core responsibilities, including wildfire 24
response, forest health monitoring, sustainable forest management 25
assistance, landowner outreach, urban and community forestry 26
support, and forestry education programs that benefit all 27
Mississippians; and 28
WHEREAS, the success of the Mississippi Forestry Commission 29
is the result of the dedication, professionalism and sacrifice of 30
its employees, both past and present, along with strong 31
partnerships with landowners, local government, state and federal 32
agencies, educational institutions and industry partners; and 33
WHEREAS, the 100th anniversary of the Mississippi Forestry 34
Commission is a significant milestone that offers an opportunity 35
to honor its historic legacy, recognize its current mission, and 36
reaffirm the importance of forestry to Mississippi's economy, 37
public safety, and natural resources; and 38
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize 39
and commend the vital work of agencies such as the Mississippi 40
Forestry Commission, whose century of faithful service and 41
continued commitment to protecting and managing Mississippi's 42
forests bring honor and pride to the great Magnolia State: 43

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 44
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING 45
THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the 46
Mississippi Forestry Commission upon the occasion of its 100th 47
anniversary and honor its century of dedicated service to the 48
State of Mississippi and its citizens. 49
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 50
furnished to the Mississippi Forestry Commission's Board of 51
Commissioners and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps. 52
