HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 57
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING KARELL 1
DAMPEER UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AS SERGEANT-AT-ARMS 2
FOR THE MISSISSIPPI HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. 3
WHEREAS, after many years of providing dedicated and zealous 4
service to the Mississippi House of Representatives and the entire 5
constituency of the 122 elected members which comprise the House's 6
body, Karell Dampeer will retire from public service as 7
Sergeant-at-Arms for the Mississippi House of Representatives, 8
where he has become a synonymous fixture on the West Wing of the 9
Mississippi State Capitol's third floor, after having first begun 10
his prestigious career on October 12, 1998; and 11
WHEREAS, born on June 29, 1974, to Mr. Devon and Mrs. Janice 12
Dampeer in Magee, Mississippi, Mr. Dampeer entered the Magee 13
Public School System in first grade, where he continued his 14
education until graduating high school in 1992; and 15
WHEREAS, upon graduation, Mr. Dampeer furthered his education 16
by attending Jackson State University as a student-athlete on a 17

football scholarship where he earned a bachelor's degree in 18
criminal justice; and 19
WHEREAS, Mr. Dampeer began his employment with the 20
Mississippi House of Representatives on October 12, 1998, as an 21
Assistant Sergeant-at-Arms, and in September 2003, he was promoted 22
to Sergeant-at-Arms (Chief Enforcement Officer) for the 23
Mississippi House of Representatives at the age of 29, making him 24
the youngest House Sergeant-at-Arms in the United States; and 25
WHEREAS, outside of his outstanding tenure as 26
Sergeant-at-Arms, Mr. Dampeer has two sons, Deztany (Kim) and 27
Miles, one granddaughter, Amina, and one sister, Kathy Dampeer 28
Pittman, and he is a dedicated member of Magee First Baptist 29
Church in Magee; and 30
WHEREAS, a stellar employee and a proven invaluable asset, 31
Mr. Dampeer's exceptional performance and duty to serve has never 32
waivered from the date of his initial hire until his decision to 33
conclude his prestigious career with the House; and 34
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to acknowledge 35
extraordinary Mississippians such as Mr. Dampeer, one we are proud 36
to call our own, whose daily presence in the halls of the Capitol 37
will be sorely missed, but whose legacy of selflessness, hard work 38
and dedication has made an indelible mark on the Mississippi House 39
of Representatives and all those who have been privileged to know 40
and work with him: 41

House of Representatives.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 42
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING 43
THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the esteemed career and public 44
service that Karell Dampeer rendered to the citizens of 45
Mississippi as Sergeant-at-Arms for the Mississippi House of 46
Representatives, congratulate him upon the occasion of his 47
retirement from public service and extend warmest wishes for 48
continued success in all his future endeavors. 49
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 50
furnished to Karell Dampeer and to the members of the Capitol 51
Press Corps. 52
