A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND EXPRESSING GRATITUDE 1
TO MR. WILLIE W. MOSES, JR., FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF SERVICE TO 2
ALCORN STATE UNIVERSITY AND THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI. 3
WHEREAS, Mr. Willie W. Moses, Jr., former longtime director 4
of the James L. Bolden Campus Union at Alcorn State University, 5
has devoted his life to public service and higher education in the 6
State of Mississippi; and 7
WHEREAS, a native of Magnolia, Mississippi, Mr. Moses, the 8
third of ten children born unto Willie and Virgia Moses, graduated 9
from Eva Gordon High School in 1969 before earning a bachelor's 10
degree from Alcorn State University in 1973; and 11
WHEREAS, the Moses family's lifelong legacy with Alcorn began 12
long before Mr. Moses ever stepped foot on the Lorman campus when 13
Mr. Moses' late Uncle O.W. Moses, who Mr. Moses greatly credits 14
with "whatever minimum success I may have achieved," graduated 15
from the university in 1950 and immediately began his career at 16
the school which spanned 29 years, 25 of which were as the 17
institution's Chief Financial Officer; and 18

WHEREAS, with each of his nine siblings also attending 19
Alcorn, purple and gold runs deep in the Moses family veins, 20
making it virtually impossible for Mr. Moses not to have followed 21
in his uncle's footsteps, and not long after completing his 22
degree, Mr. Moses returned to the campus to begin a long and 23
distinguished career of 45 years as the third of only four 24
directors for the James L. Bolden Campus Union in its 63-year 25
history; and 26
WHEREAS, during Mr. Moses' many years as director of the 27
student union - the very hub of campus activities - he genuinely 28
enjoyed interacting with fellow employees and thousands of 29
students, positively impacting their lives and helping them 30
achieve their dreams and goals in life; and 31
WHEREAS, the very epitome of "Always Alcorn!", Mr. Moses 32
considers Alcorn State University to be a "natural resource in 33
southwest Mississippi that has stood the test of time," and 34
although he retired from his position in 2020, he proudly 35
volunteers for the institution and remains committed to helping 36
Alcorn and mankind reach their rightful place in history going 37
into the future; and 38
WHEREAS, it is most appropriate to recognize and commend 39
outstanding Mississippians, especially those such as Mr. Willie W. 40
Moses, Jr., whose years of dedicated and impeccable service at 41
Alcorn State University has significantly enriched the Magnolia 42
State as well as the individual lives of countless students, 43

coworkers, fellow alumni, volunteers and his beloved university, 44
bringing honor to the Alcorn family and the entire State of 45

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 47
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING 48
THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and express our sincere 49
gratitude to Mr. Willie W. Moses, Jr., for his many years of 50
service to Alcorn State University and the State of Mississippi 51
and express heartfelt wishes for only the very best for many years 52
to come. 53
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 54
furnished to Mr. Willie W. Moses, Jr., and to the members of the 55
Capitol Press Corps. 56
