A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING NFL 1
PROFESSIONAL CHARLES CROSS OF LAUREL, MISSISSIPPI, ON BEING A 2
MEMBER OF THE SUPER BOWL LX CHAMPIONSHIP SEATTLE SEAHAWKS TEAM. 3
WHEREAS, on February 8, 2026, in a thrilling hard-fought game 4
sure to not be forgotten, the Seattle Seahawks defeated the New 5
England Patriots by a score of 29-13 in Super Bowl LX at Levi's 6
Stadium in Santa Clara, California, incredibly securing the 7
franchise's second Super Bowl Championship in its 50-year history; 8
and 9
WHEREAS, making significant contributions to the Seahawks' 10
historic victory in the Super Bowl was an exceptionally talented 11
offensive lineman impressively ranked near the top among his peers 12
in the NFL who hails from the Magnolia State - Charles Ellis Cross 13
of Laurel, Mississippi; and 14
WHEREAS, born on November 25, 2000, in Laurel, Charles 15
attended Laurel High School and played in the 2018 All-American 16
Bowl in his senior year, and although he initially committed to 17
play for Florida State, Charles, selected for the Clarion Ledger's 18

Dandy Dozen, decommitted in favor of signing with Mississippi 19
State University before graduating from high school; and 20
WHEREAS, named the Bulldogs' starting left tackle going into 21
his redshirt freshman season, Charles started 10 games and was 22
named to the Southeastern Conference (SEC) All-Freshman Football 23
Team in his first year in Starkville; and 24
WHEREAS, following a sophomore season at Mississippi State in 25
which he was a preseason second-team All-SEC selection and was 26
considered one of the top offensive tackle prospects for the 2022 27
NFL draft, Charles declared for the 2022 NFL draft and was 28
selected ninth overall in the first round by the Seattle Seahawks; 29
and 30
WHEREAS, as a standout rookie under a four-year contract with 31
the Seahawks, Charles appeared in and started all 17 regular 32
season games and one playoff game in the 2022 season, and in 2023, 33
he appeared in and started in 14 games, missing three due to 34
injury, before starting in all 17 games during the 2024 season; 35
and 36
WHEREAS, in 2025, the Seahawks exercised a fifth-year option 37
on Charles' first contract, and in January of 2026, he signed an 38
unbelievable four-year, $104.4 million contract extension with $75 39
million guaranteed, the largest deal for a non-quarterback in 40
franchise history, making Charles the NFL's third-highest-paid 41
left tackle based on the new-money average; and 42

WHEREAS, while offensive linemen aren't always in the 43
spotlight, Charles' consistent and ever-improving performance as a 44
left tackle, one of the most critical positions on any team relied 45
on to protect a quarterback's blind side, earned him the 46
second-best pass-blocking grade of any offensive lineman in the 47
2026 playoffs, with an 85.3 mark, according to Pro Football Focus 48
(PFF), which places him near the top for his position; and 49
WHEREAS, Charles' winning appearance in his first Super Bowl, 50
a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to showcase his extraordinary 51
talent and determination, doubled as a rare moment for Laurel High 52
School, Bulldog Nation and the entire state to be represented in 53
one of the world's biggest sporting events; and 54
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize 55
and commend individuals such as Charles Cross, one of our own sons 56
who exemplifies the talent, perseverance and spirit that 57
Mississippi produces, thereby bringing immense pride to Laurel 58
High School, the City of Laurel, Mississippi State University and 59
the entire state through his achievements on the national stage: 60
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 61
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING 62
THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Charles Ellis 63
Cross of Laurel, Mississippi, on his outstanding professional 64
football career with the Seattle Seahawks and on winning Super 65
Bowl LX and extend sincere wishes for continued success in all his 66
future endeavors. 67
