HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 10
A RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING DIRECTOR JOHN B. MILLER 1
UPON THE SPECIAL OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE BILOXI POLICE 2
DEPARTMENT. 3
WHEREAS, Director John B. Miller is being honored and 4
celebrated upon the special occasion of his retirement after 35 5
years of outstanding service with the Biloxi Police Department; 6
and 7
WHEREAS, blessed with an innate spirit to serve, Director 8
Miller was appointed Director of Police in December 2009, after 9
working his way up through the ranks, holding the positions of 10
Sergeant, Lieutenant and Captain; and 11
WHEREAS, Director Miller's affiliations include: serving as 12
the Board Chairman of the Regional Organized Crime Information 13
Center, former President of the Gulf Coast Center for Non-Violence 14
and the Mississippi Association of Chiefs of Police, former 15
President of the Harrison County Emergency Communications 16
Commission, member of the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force, the 17
Attorney General's Mental Health Task Force, past Keesler Air 18

Force Base Honorary Commander, and he currently serves on the 19
Board for High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area; and 20
WHEREAS, throughout his tenure, Director Miller's 21
professional conduct and devotion to law enforcement has been 22
evident through his 35 years of public service; and 23
WHEREAS, Director Miller attended the Southeastern Command 24
and Leadership Academy, where he graduated first in his class, and 25
he also attended the Drug Enforcement Agency Training Academy; and 26
WHEREAS, some of Director Miller's honors and awards include: 27
the Medal of Merit, Medal of Valor, two Distinguished Service 28
Medals, Victim's Advocate Award from the Gulf Coast Victims' 29
Rights Coalition, the Jane Philo Award of Excellence from the Gulf 30
Coast Center for Non-Violence, and the Mississippi Crime Stoppers 31
Lifetime Achievement Award; and 32
WHEREAS, outside of his exceptional leadership with the 33
Biloxi Police Department, Director Miller married Vondell Ware 34
Miller in 1987, and together they raised two children, Gretchen 35
and Wesley, and have been blessed with five grandchildren; and 36
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to 37
honor Director John B. Miller upon his retirement from the Biloxi 38
Police Department, as his rich legacy of service will forever be 39
treasured, by not only his fellow officers, but also by the 40
citizens of Biloxi who were blessed by his leadership as he 41
fulfilled his duty to protect and serve: 42

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 43
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby 44
honor and commend Director John B. Miller upon the special 45
occasion of his retirement and wish him continued success in all 46
his future endeavors. 47
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 48
furnished to Director John B. Miller and to the members of the 49
Capitol Press Corps. 50
