A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING MELINA DOGGETT, OF 1
GEORGE COUNTY MIDDLE SCHOOL, LUCEDALE, FOR WINNING THE 138 LB. 2
GIRLS STATE WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIP. 3
WHEREAS, Melina Doggett, of George County Middle School, 4
Lucedale, is the 138 lb. girls state champion in wrestling, the 5
school's first wrestling championship win, a truly outstanding 6
achievement; and 7
WHEREAS, Melina is in the 8th grade at George County Middle 8
School and started wrestling in October 2025, and at that time, 9
she had no experience in the grappling arts but wanted to try 10
basketball or wrestling, but after participating in tryouts she 11
decided that she would like to try wrestling, and she started off 12
the season wrestling and showed promise; and 13
WHEREAS, with a spirit of determination and perseverance, 14
Melina battled two injuries this year, elbow and knee, and 15
finished a match with only using one arm, and she placed either 16
third or fourth in most tournaments she entered and had a decent 17
season; and 18

WHEREAS, improving as the time went on, Melina was the top 19
point earner on the team for both boys and girls, and she is one 20
of five middle school girls on the team of six, and during South 21
State she earned third place, securing a spot for the state 22
championship, and during the state championship she wrestled the 23
number one seed and pinned her; and 24
WHEREAS, during the final match, Melina fell behind three to 25
one then four to three with less than a minute left, and with 30 26
seconds of the final round she was able to get her opponent on her 27
back and pinned her as the clock buzzed; and 28
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to 29
recognize outstanding student-athletes, especially those such as 30
Melina, whose hard work and dedication brings honor to George 31
County Middle School and to the State of Mississippi: 32
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 33
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby 34
recognize and commend Melina Doggett, of George County Middle 35
School, for winning the 138 lb. girls state wrestling 36
championship, and express most sincere wishes for continued 37
success in all her future endeavors. 38
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 39
furnished to Melina Doggett and to the members of the Capitol 40
Press Corps. 41
