A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE COLUMBIA 1
ACADEMY LADY COUGARS CROSS COUNTRY TEAM AND THEIR COACHING STAFF 2
UPON WINNING THE 2025 MISSISSIPPI ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT 3
SCHOOLS (MAIS) CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. 4
WHEREAS, the Columbia Academy Lady Cougars Cross Country Team 5
completed a remarkable and record-setting 2025 season by capturing 6
the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) Class 3A 7
State Championship, demonstrating excellence, discipline and 8
perseverance throughout the competitive season; and 9
WHEREAS, the Lady Cougars secured the championship title in 10
dominant fashion by placing five runners among the top 10 11
finishers and defeating the defending champion, Kirk Academy, by 12
an impressive margin of 24 points, a testament to the depth, 13
endurance and competitive strength of the team; and 14
WHEREAS, this victory marks the fourth state championship in 15
the history of the Columbia Academy Lady Cougars Cross Country 16
program, further establishing the Lady Cougars as one of the 17
premier distance-running programs in the MAIS; and 18

WHEREAS, Team Captain Briley Speights delivered a historic 19
performance by finishing in first place to become the first 20
individual Lady Cougar Cross Country State Champion in Columbia 21
Academy history, while also setting a school record with four 22
consecutive regular-season victories; and 23
WHEREAS, throughout the regular season, the Lady Cougars 24
displayed exceptional competitive consistency, winning eight of 25
ten invitational meets, including a string of six consecutive 26
victories, among them the Columbia Academy Caleb Coleman 27
Invitational and the Blue Division of the prestigious "Watson" 28
Invitational hosted by Mississippi College, the largest cross 29
country meet conducted in the State of Mississippi; and 30
WHEREAS, the championship season was the culmination of more 31
than 20 weeks of rigorous preparation, during which these young 32
student-athletes trained tirelessly on trails and tracks, 33
completing hundreds of miles of distance running and extensive 34
interval training while enduring extreme summer heat and adverse 35
weather conditions, demonstrating remarkable grit, dedication and 36
determination; and 37
WHEREAS, the members of the 2025 Columbia Academy Lady 38
Cougars Cross Country Team include: Briley Speights, Ansley 39
Armstrong, Emmi Burrell, Bryleigh Robertson, Alli Burrell, Charlee 40
Kate Bond, Kortlyn Bracey, Harper Jones, Selia Kilpatrick and 41
Kenedy Morgan; and 42

WHEREAS, the outstanding accomplishments of this team were 43
made possible through the commitment and support of their coaches, 44
parents, families, school administrators, fellow students and 45
loyal fans, all of whom contributed to an environment that 46
encourages excellence in athletics, academics and character; and 47
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to 48
recognize and commend the achievements of student-athletes whose 49
discipline, teamwork and dedication bring pride and distinction to 50
their schools and communities throughout the State of Mississippi: 51
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 52
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby 53
commend and congratulate the Columbia Academy Lady Cougars Cross 54
Country Team upon winning the 2025 MAIS Class 3A State 55
Championship, and extend best wishes to the team and its coaching 56
staff for continued success in future seasons. 57
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 58
furnished to the Columbia Academy Lady Cougars Cross Country Team 59
and coaching staff, the administration of Columbia Academy and to 60
the members of the Capitol Press Corps. 61
