HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 107
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MICHAEL "MIKE" 1
HOOD, JR., OF THE COLUMBUS HIGH SCHOOL FALCONS BASKETBALL TEAM 2
UPON BEING NAMED THE 2026 MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES 3
ASSOCIATION CLASS 5A "MR. BASKETBALL". 4
WHEREAS, Michael "Mike" Hood, Jr., a senior forward for the 5
Columbus High School Falcons Basketball Team, has been named the 6
2026 Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 7
5A "Mr. Basketball," one of the highest individual honors bestowed 8
upon a high school basketball player in the State of Mississippi; 9
and 10
WHEREAS, the Mr. Basketball awards, presented by the 11
Mississippi High School Activities Association in conjunction with 12
the Mississippi Association of Coaches and sponsored by C Spire, 13
recognize the most outstanding players in each classification for 14
their excellence in athletic performance, leadership and 15
sportsmanship; and 16
WHEREAS, throughout his outstanding senior season, Mike Hood 17
demonstrated exceptional talent and consistency on the court, 18
averaging 16.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game while leading the 19

Columbus High School Falcons to an impressive 23-5 overall record 20
and the Region 1-5A District Championship; and 21
WHEREAS, Hood achieved a significant career milestone earlier 22
in the season by surpassing the 1,000-point mark in his scoring 23
career, a testament to his dedication, skill and long-standing 24
impact on the Columbus basketball program; and 25
WHEREAS, his leadership and outstanding play have helped 26
propel the Falcons to postseason success, including a commanding 27
victory over Holmes County Central High School by a score of 52-38 28
in the 2026 MHSAA Class 5A Boys Basketball State Championship 29
game, securing the school's first state championship since 2018 30
and the third boys state title in program history; and 31
WHEREAS, in that championship effort and throughout the 32
season, Mike Hood's performance, determination and commitment to 33
teamwork played a pivotal role in guiding the Falcons to victory 34
and maintaining the proud tradition of excellence within the 35
Columbus High School athletic program; and 36
WHEREAS, Hood's achievements have earned him statewide 37
recognition and he will be honored alongside other Mr. Basketball 38
and Miss Basketball recipients during the 2026 Blue Cross & Blue 39
Shield of Mississippi Big House Classic MHSAA State Championships 40
at the Mississippi Coliseum, as well as at a special awards 41
luncheon hosted at the MHSAA Conference Center; and 42
WHEREAS, the success of Mike Hood reflects not only his 43
personal dedication and athletic excellence, but also the guidance 44

of his coaches, the support of his teammates, family, school 45
administrators and the proud community of Columbus who have 46
encouraged and supported his development as a student-athlete; and 47
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to 48
recognize and commend young Mississippians whose discipline, 49
perseverance and leadership bring honor and distinction to their 50
schools and communities: 51
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 52
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby 53
commend and congratulate Michael "Mike" Hood, Jr., of the Columbus 54
High School Falcons Basketball Team upon being named the 2026 55
Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 5A "Mr. 56
Basketball", and extend best wishes for continued success in his 57
future athletic, academic and personal endeavors. 58
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 59
furnished to Mike Hood and to the members of the Capitol Press 60
Corps. 61
