A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE STARKVILLE 1
HIGH SCHOOL YELLOWJACKETS BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH 2
ANTHONY CARLYLE UPON WINNING THE 2026 MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL 3
ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION (MHSAA) CLASS 7A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. 4
WHEREAS, the Starkville High School Yellowjackets Boys 5
Basketball Team, led by first-year Head Coach Anthony Carlyle, 6
captured the Mississippi High School Activities Association 7
(MHSAA) Class 7A State Championship on March 6, 2026, with a 8
thrilling 40-36 victory over Germantown High School, demonstrating 9
resilience, determination and championship poise on the biggest 10
stage in Mississippi high school basketball; and 11
WHEREAS, the Yellowjackets rallied from a seven-point 12
halftime deficit after Germantown held a 22-15 lead at the break, 13
as Starkville mounted a determined comeback by outscoring 14
Germantown 14-10 in the third quarter and dominating the fourth 15
quarter 11-4 to secure the championship victory; and 16
WHEREAS, the turning point in the contest came late in the 17
third quarter when Starkville erased a nine-point deficit, cutting 18
Germantown's lead from 30-21 to 32-29 after a trio of 19

three-pointers by Jerwan McCarter, Terrell Warren, Jr., and Tyreq 20
Hendrix, igniting momentum that carried the Yellowjackets into the 21
decisive fourth quarter; and 22
WHEREAS, Starkville opened the final period with baskets from 23
Ladanuel Jordan and Andricus Howard to tie the game at 34-34 24
before Jordan delivered a crucial basket with 5:21 remaining to 25
give the Yellowjackets a 36-34 advantage they would never 26
relinquish; and 27
WHEREAS, championship Most Valuable Player Jerwan McCarter 28
led the Yellowjackets with 10 points, while Ladanuel Jordan added 29
eight points, Tyreq Hendrix contributed six points, and Kobe 30
Hendrix finished with five points and three rebounds, as 31
Starkville connected on six of thirteen three-point attempts and 32
controlled the glass with a 26-21 rebounding advantage; and 33
WHEREAS, the Starkville High School Yellowjackets completed a 34
remarkable 2026 season with an outstanding record of 29 wins and 35
three losses, beginning and ending the season ranked the consensus 36
No. 1 team in Mississippi, reflecting their sustained excellence 37
and dominance throughout the year; and 38
WHEREAS, although this marks the first season for Head Coach 39
Anthony Carlyle with the Yellowjackets, the championship 40
represents the seventh state title of his distinguished coaching 41
career, further solidifying his reputation as one of the premier 42
basketball coaches in Mississippi high school athletics; and 43

WHEREAS, numerous individual honors further highlight the 44
exceptional talent within the program, including Jerwan McCarter 45
as the MHSAA 7A State Championship Most Valuable Player, a 2026 7A 46
Mississippi/Alabama All-Star and All-Region 2/7A selection; 47
Terrell Warren, Jr., as MHSAA 7A Scholar Athlete, a 2026 Boys 48
Basketball Dandy Dozen honoree and All-Region 2/7A selection; 49
Jaden Tate as a 2026 Boys Basketball Dandy Dozen honoree, a 2026 50
7A Mississippi/Alabama All-Star and All-Region 2/7A selection; 51
Kobe Hendrix as a 2025 7A North/South All-Star; and Ladanuel 52
Jordan as an All-Region 2/7A selection; and 53
WHEREAS, the members of the 2025-2026 Starkville High School 54
Yellowjackets Boys Basketball Team whose dedication, discipline 55
and teamwork led them to this prestigious state championship 56
include: Jaden Tate, Jaylan Carlyle, Terrell Warren, Jr., Traylen 57
Guy, Kobe Hendrix, Jyhiem Robinson, Ja'Donis Wallace, Nicholas 58
Gregory, Andricus Howard, Ravon Collier, Jr., Rondeze Harris, Jr., 59
Tyreq Hendrix, Kaiden Robinson, Jamari Ross, Jerwan McCarter, 60
Atavious Baker and Ladanuel Jordan; and 61
WHEREAS, guiding this championship team are Head Coach 62
Anthony Carlyle and Assistant Coaches Chance Collins, Jerrial 63
Dawson and Tory Rice, whose leadership, preparation and commitment 64
to excellence helped shape the discipline and competitive spirit 65
that propelled the Yellowjackets to the pinnacle of Class 7A 66

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to 68
recognize and commend outstanding achievements by Mississippi 69
student-athletes who bring honor to their schools, their 70
communities and the State of Mississippi: 71
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 72
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby 73
commend and congratulate the Starkville High School Yellowjackets 74
Boys Basketball Team and Head Coach Anthony Carlyle upon winning 75
the 2026 MHSAA Class 7A State Championship, and extend best wishes 76
to the team, coaches, parents and supporters for continued success 77
in all their future endeavors. 78
