A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND HONORING ALICE MARIE JOHNSON FOR 1
HER OUTSTANDING SERVICE, ACCOMPLISHMENTS, AND FOR BEING APPOINTED 2
THE FIRST-EVER WHITE HOUSE PARDON CZAR BY PRESIDENT DONALD J. 3
TRUMP. 4
WHEREAS, Alice Marie Johnson made history on February 20, 5
2025, when she was appointed the first-ever White House Pardon 6
Czar by President Donald J. Trump; and 7
WHEREAS, Ms. Johnson grew up in Olive Branch, Mississippi, 8
and she was the sixth of nine children born to Raymond Boggan and 9
Sallie Mae Boggan, who were respected leaders in DeSoto County, 10
Mississippi, and who were sharecroppers that later became business 11
owners; and 12
WHEREAS, devoted to her family, Ms. Johnson is the proud 13
mother of five children: Tretessa, Catina, Charles, Bryant and 14
Cory, and is a grandmother and great-grandmother; and 15
WHEREAS, hardworking throughout her life, Ms. Johnson enjoyed 16
a successful career in business and management, but in 1996, her 17
world turned upside down when she made a terrible mistake, and she 18

was convicted as a first-time nonviolent offender and sentenced to 19
a mandatory life sentence without parole; and 20
WHEREAS, during her time in prison, Ms. Johnson became an 21
ordained minister, hospice volunteer and wrote and directed 22
original plays, which were seen by thousands of women, including 23
staff and outside volunteers, and she was considered a model 24
prisoner and mentored many women; and 25
WHEREAS, in 2017, Ms. Johnson's case caught the attention of 26
Kim Kardashian, who advocated for her freedom after seeing a video 27
op-ed of her, and Kim subsequently met with President Trump on Ms. 28
Johnson's birthday, May 30, 2018, and seven days later, on June 6, 29
2018, the world watched as Ms. Johnson ran across the street into 30
the arms of her family, after being granted clemency; and 31
WHEREAS, Ms. Johnson had served almost 22 years in prison, 32
and then, on August 28, 2020, she was granted a full pardon by 33
President Trump, and because of the injustice of her case, she has 34
become the face of criminal justice reform; and 35
WHEREAS, Ms. Johnson has been called our modern-day Harriet 36
Tubman, and she did not get comfortable in her own freedom, 37
instead she reached back and helped many others gain their freedom 38
and receive a second chance in life; and 39
WHEREAS, as a criminal justice reform advocate, some of Ms. 40
Johnson's honors and awards include: CAOC Advocate for Justice 41
award recipient in 2019; one of four women designated as a 42
"Women's Rights Defender" at the United Nations on International 43

Women's Day; honored as one of Ebony Magazine's Power 100 Blacks 44
in America; and honored at the National Civil Rights Museum in 45
their "Catalyst for Change" series; and 46
WHEREAS, additionally, Ms. Johnson is the founder of the 47
Taking Action for Good Foundation and the celebrated author of 48
"After Life: My Journey from Incarceration to Freedom", and she 49
is also a national and international speaker and served on the 50
boards of Duke University and Ready Life; and 51
WHEREAS, Ms. Johnson has been on numerous TV networks and 52
podcasts, and was featured in a Superbowl commercial in 2020, many 53
novels and several documentaries, and was a model in the launch of 54
Kim Kardashian's SKIMS brand; and 55
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to 56
recognize extraordinary individuals, especially those such as Ms. 57
Johnson, whose exceptional service and advocacy brings honor to 58
her family, community, the State of Mississippi, and to the United 59
States of America: 60
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 61
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby 62
recognize and honor Alice Marie Johnson for her outstanding 63
service, accomplishments, and for being appointed the first-ever 64
White House Pardon Czar by President Donald J. Trump, and extend 65
best wishes for continued success in all her future endeavors. 66
