A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING SHILOH FULL GOSPEL 1
MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH UPON THE OUTSTANDING OCCASION OF ITS 2
191ST ANNIVERSARY. 3
WHEREAS, the congregation of Shiloh Full Gospel M.B. Church 4
is celebrating the momentous occasion of the church's 191st 5
anniversary, as the church commemorates its powerful impact of 6
leading souls to Christ as the church remains a beacon of light 7
for Columbus, Mississippi, and surrounding areas; and 8
WHEREAS, with faith and trust in God l9l years ago, about 60 9
years after our nation came into existence the Shiloh Full Gospel 10
M.B. Church was originated under a brush harbor by a few 11
determined and devoted Christian slaves; and 12
WHEREAS, from this little shelter, Shiloh has been, and still 13
is, the foundation for many generations, making it the oldest 14
black church in the city of Columbus, Mississippi; and 15
WHEREAS, in 1821, the land for the church was chartered under 16
the leadership of Pastor Bill Robinson along with several devoted 17
deacons, and few records were documented during this time, 18

however, the members have been able to determine that the church 19
was demolished and re-erected at its former location, 110 Second 20
Avenue North in 1886, under the leadership of Pastor I. M. 21
Mission; and 22
WHEREAS, the lumber for the building was donated by the 23
Cheatum Lumber Company, and it was at this time that the devoted 24
workers began to fully realize the blessings of the Lord as they 25
began to erect the first building to be known as Shiloh Missionary 26
Baptist Church; and 27
WHEREAS, in 1942, the building was remodeled under the 28
leadership of Pastor Robert M. Prowell, and because of continuous 29
floods, the church was elevated in 1953, and during the elevation 30
process, Pastor Prowell and the congregation worshipped at 31
Northside M.B. Church until 1959, and they are forever grateful 32
and appreciative to the family of Northside for extending a much 33
needed helping hand; and 34
WHEREAS, it was under the leadership of Pastor Prowell that 35
the Willing Works Organization and Harvest Rally were organized, 36
and at the time of Pastor Prowell's passing, a new church building 37
was completed under the leadership of Pastor Febber B. McCoy in 38
1959, and it was on the fourth Sunday of May 1959, that Pastor 39
McCoy led his flock home to 110 Second Avenue North, and he 40
remained the shepherd of the flock until 1980; and 41
WHEREAS, in 1980, Pastor John H. Sanders became the pastor 42
and served faithfully until resigning in December 1989, and in 43

March 1990, the church was blessed with its current pastor, Pastor 44
Freddie Edwards, Sr., who strives constantly to supply their souls 45
with spiritual guidance and complete nurture to live holy lives 46
for God; and 47
WHEREAS, under the leadership of Pastor Edwards, the church 48
membership began to increase, and it was in February 1991, after 49
three consecutive floods from December to February, that Deacon 50
Willie Hood approached the church with the vision of purchasing a 51
new building, outside of the flood area; and 52
WHEREAS, with faith, hope, expectations and much prayer, 53
under the leadership of Pastor Edwards, July 1, 1991, marked the 54
first worship in the location on 426 Military Road, Columbus, 55
Mississippi; and 56
WHEREAS, under Pastor Edwards' leadership, in February 2000, 57
the old building at 110 Second Avenue North was sold to Pastor 58
Oscar Boyd and the Christ M.B. Full Gospel Church family; and 59
WHEREAS, in March 2004, the church secured properties located 60
at 120 l9th Street and the Annex at 1800 Short Main Street South 61
in Columbus, and the main sanctuary was formally dedicated the 62
second Sunday in December 2004 at the 120 l9th Street location; 63
and 64
WHEREAS, the Annex, at the 1800 Short Main Street location, 65
is intended to house the Day Care Center, the Free Clothing 66
Distribution Ministry and the Youth Ministry; and 67

WHEREAS, in 191 years, Shiloh has been blessed with only six 68
pastors and a lot has been achieved since services began under the 69
brush harbor in 1821, and with the continued guidance and help of 70
Almighty God, much is yet to be gained, and they will always 71
cherish their former pastors and members who labored so faithfully 72
and diligently before them to fulfill their visions and dreams; 73
and 74
WHEREAS, Shiloh continues its journey of reaching souls for 75
the Lord Jesus Christ as it remains a dedicated place of worship 76
committed to edifying God's kingdom by empowering the congregation 77
to be true disciples of Christ, who live in holiness, and worship 78
in spirit and truth; and 79
WHEREAS, with excitement, humility and awe, Shiloh looks back 80
on its past achievements, and with sincere thankfulness 81
acknowledges God's grace and love, which have brought them through 82
nearly a century and a half and have given them triumphant 83
victory; and 84
WHEREAS, it is most appropriate to recognize and commend an 85
outstanding, contributory and historic religious institution such 86
as Shiloh Full Gospel M.B. Church, which continues to be a 87
cornerstone in Columbus as it strives continuously to promote the 88
spread and growth of the Christian faith through the keeping of 89
the Great Commission by becoming fishers of men: 90
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 91
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby 92
