HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 131
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE WAYNE ACADEMY 1
LADY JAGUARS SOFTBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH DUSTY HILLMAN UPON 2
WINNING THE 2025 MISSISSIPPI ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS 3
(MAIS) CLASS 3A DIVISION II STATE SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP. 4
WHEREAS, the Wayne Academy Lady Jaguars Softball Team 5
completed a historic and inspiring 2025 season by capturing the 6
Mississippi Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) Class 3A 7
Division II State Softball Championship, securing the first 8
softball state title in school history; and 9
WHEREAS, the Lady Jaguars claimed the championship in 10
dramatic fashion by defeating Bowling Green School of Louisiana by 11
a score of 6-5 in the decisive Game 3 of a highly competitive 12
best-of-three series, earning a 2-1 series victory on their home 13
field at the Wayne Academy softball complex; and 14
WHEREAS, the championship series was fiercely contested, with 15
both teams entering the final game evenly matched and ultimately 16
finishing the series having each scored forty runs against one 17
another, reflecting the intensity and balance of competition 18
between two outstanding programs; and 19

WHEREAS, the Lady Jaguars' championship season stands as a 20
testament to perseverance and resilience, as the team overcame 21
early adversity, including a six-game losing streak and a 2-7 22
start to the season, before rallying to finish with a 19-14-1 23
record and an unforgettable postseason run; and 24
WHEREAS, under the leadership of Head Coach Dusty Hillman, 25
whose championship experience and unwavering belief in his players 26
guided the program, the Lady Jaguars developed into a cohesive and 27
determined unit, embodying hard work, discipline and an unyielding 28
commitment to excellence; and 29
WHEREAS, the championship game itself exemplified the team's 30
grit and resolve, as the Lady Jaguars overcame a late 5-2 deficit 31
in the sixth inning by scoring four runs to reclaim the lead, and 32
then held firm defensively in the final inning to secure the 33
victory and the title; and 34
WHEREAS, outstanding individual performances contributed to 35
the team's success, including strong offensive efforts at the 36
plate and a complete-game pitching performance that anchored the 37
Lady Jaguars' championship victory, while each player fulfilled 38
her role in a collective display of teamwork and determination; 39
and 40
WHEREAS, the Wayne Academy Lady Jaguars represented their 41
school, community and supporters with pride, sportsmanship and 42
excellence, inspiring all who followed their remarkable journey 43
from early-season struggles to championship triumph; and 44

commend upon winning 2025 MAIS Class 3A Division
II State Championship.
WHEREAS, the success of this championship team reflects not 45
only the dedication of its players and coaching staff, but also 46
the unwavering support of parents, school administrators, 47
volunteers, the broader Wayne Academy and community family; and 48
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to 49
recognize and commend the achievements of student-athletes whose 50
perseverance, teamwork and excellence bring honor and distinction 51
to their schools and communities: 52
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 53
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby 54
commend and congratulate the Wayne Academy Lady Jaguars Softball 55
Team and Head Coach Dusty Hillman upon winning the 2025 MAIS Class 56
3A Division II State Softball Championship, and extend best wishes 57
for continued success in all their future athletic and academic 58
endeavors. 59
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 60
furnished to Head Coach Dusty Hillman on behalf of the Lady 61
Jaguars Softball Team, to the administration of Wayne Academy and 62
to the members of the Capitol Press Corps. 63
