HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 134
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE TUPELO HIGH 1
SCHOOL GOLDEN WAVE AND ATHLETICS DIRECTOR JASON MILLER ON WINNING 2
THE 2024-2025 MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION 3
(MHSAA) CLASS 7A ALL-SPORTS AWARD. 4
WHEREAS, in an astonishing year dominated by win after win, 5
again and yet again, across several different athletic programs, 6
the Tupelo High School Golden Wave and Athletics Director Jason 7
Miller achieved their crowning moment in the 2024-2025 school year 8
when the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) 9
declared the school the winner of the highly coveted Class 7A 10
All-Sports Award; and 11
WHEREAS, this prestigious recognition, earned by the top 12
athletics program in the state, is based on a points system for 13
overall athletic performance across various sports, and in their 14
quest for the top, the Golden Wave racked up a grand total of 365 15
points, tumbling Madison Central High School from its multi-year 16
reign as the holder of the 7A All-Sports Award, as the Tupelo 17
Girls Cross Country Team, Football Team, Girls Basketball Team and 18
Tennis Team all captured state championships; and 19

WHEREAS, with runner-up finishes in both boys and girls 20
swimming and boys cross country, Tupelo started the fall strong 21
before winning its second consecutive 7A Girls Cross Country 22
Championship on November 2, 2024, at the Choctaw Trails in 23
Jackson, Mississippi, with a race time of 1:44:32:74 and team 24
score of 81; and 25
WHEREAS, only a month later on December 5, the 14-0 Golden 26
Wave Football Team, then ranked No. 204 in the High School 27
Football America 300 national rankings, brought home the first 28
Golden Ball since 1992 by defeating Brandon High School 28-16 in 29
the 7A State Football Championship played on the campus of the 30
University of Southern Mississippi; and 31
WHEREAS, with seemingly no limit to the talent in the Tupelo 32
athletics department, the 2025 Girls Basketball Team claimed its 33
second consecutive state title when the ballers reigned supreme on 34
the hardwoods at the Mississippi Coliseum in the 7A State 35
Basketball Championship played on February 27, 2025; and 36
WHEREAS, topping off the year of state championships for the 37
Golden Wave, the Tupelo High Tennis Team displayed nothing but 38
power and consistency with each stroke and rally in the April 2025 39
7A State Championship with both the boys and girls squads 40
dominating the courts and securing the state title; and 41
WHEREAS, the tremendous showing of the Golden Wave in 42
championship play was not limited to the four teams bringing home 43
state titles, as other Tupelo High teams performed remarkably well 44

during 2024-2025, reaching the playoffs in 7A girls and boys 45
soccer, boys basketball, softball and baseball; and 46
WHEREAS, while the 2025 All-Sports Award, Tupelo's first 47
since 2017, would not have been possible without each team's 48
passion for their game and unparalleled spirit of teamwork and 49
sportsmanship, the key to the Golden Waves' ascent to the pinnacle 50
of sporting excellence has been the superb coaching and 51
inspiration by the dedicated athletics staff at Tupelo High School 52
under the expert leadership of sixth-year Athletics Director Jason 53
Miller; and 54
WHEREAS, a 1997 Tupelo High School graduate who lettered in 55
both football and baseball, Jason Miller, personally familiar with 56
the high caliber of the students and faculty of the school, 57
welcomed the opportunity to return to his Tupelo roots in 2020 to 58
build on the successful history of Golden Waves athletics that is 59
now distinguished by having garnered the esteemed Mississippi 60
All-Sports Award an unbelievable 20 times; and 61
WHEREAS, since Jason Miller's first year back on his home 62
turf, a year in which 17 teams advanced to the postseason and the 63
boys golf team claimed the 2021 Class 6A crown, the athletic 64
programs have thrived, and in the last two years, the Golden Wave 65
has amassed an incredible seven state championships; and 66
WHEREAS, under Jason Miller's guidance, Golden Wave athletes 67
have excelled not only in sports, but in the classroom as well, 68

with 960 student-athletes engaged in sports having posted a 3.67 69
GPA last fall, the highest in Tupelo High's history; and 70
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to 71
recognize and commend outstanding Mississippians such as the 72
Tupelo High School championship student-athletes, coaching staff 73
and Athletics Director Jason Miller, and it is with great pride 74
that we congratulate this elite group who has brought honor and 75
pride to their school, the City of Tupelo, and the State of 76
Mississippi: 77
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 78
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby 79
commend and congratulate the Tupelo High School Golden Wave and 80
Athletics Director Jason Miller on winning the 2024-2025 81
Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 7A 82
All-Sports Award and extend best wishes to the school's 83
student-athletes, coaching staff and Athletics Director Jason 84
Miller for continued success in all their future endeavors. 85
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 86
furnished to Tupelo High School, Athletics Director Jason Miller 87
and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps. 88
