HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 136

A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND CELEBRATING TRAPPING AS AN 1
EFFECTIVE WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT TOOL. 2
WHEREAS, regulated trapping is a proven, science-based 3
wildlife management tool that supports conservation goals, 4
protects vulnerable species, enhances habitat and waterfowl 5
production, reduces taxpayer costs for nuisance control, aids in 6
disease control, generates economic benefits through fur 7
harvesting, and prevents costly environmental damage, all while 8
being restricted to abundant species under strict regulatory 9
oversight by state and federal agencies; and 10
WHEREAS, through targeted predator management, trapping 11
significantly enhances waterfowl production in high-density 12
breeding areas where it reduces predation on duck eggs by species 13
such as raccoons and skunks, boosting nest success rates from as 14
low as 5-10% to the 15-20% threshold needed for stable 15
populations, ultimately increasing duck numbers by tens of 16
thousands and restoring natural breeding potential; and 17
