HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 153
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING YASMINE WARE UPON 1
BEING NAMED A 2025 HARRY S. TRUMAN SCHOLAR AND BECOMING THE 2
UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI'S 20TH TRUMAN SCHOLAR. 3
WHEREAS, Yasmine Ware, a University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) 4
student, has been named a 2025 Harry S. Truman Scholar, becoming 5
the institution's 20th recipient of this prestigious national 6
honor, and one of only 54 students selected nationwide from a 7
competitive pool of more than 700 applicants; and 8
WHEREAS, the Harry S. Truman Scholarship, established by 9
Congress in 1975 as a living memorial to the 33rd President of the 10
United States, is the premier graduate scholarship for aspiring 11
public service leaders, recognizing students who demonstrate 12
exceptional academic achievement, leadership potential and a 13
steadfast commitment to careers in government and public service; 14
and 15
WHEREAS, Miss Ware, a native of Madison, Mississippi, is an 16
interdisciplinary studies major with concentrations in 17
international studies, Chinese and global security, whose academic 18

excellence and intellectual curiosity have distinguished her as a 19
scholar of the highest caliber; and 20
WHEREAS, throughout her collegiate career, Yasmine has 21
demonstrated exemplary leadership and service, serving as 22
President of the Undergraduate Black Law Student Association, a 23
member of the Columns Society, a participant in the Associated 24
Student Body President's Cabinet and Senate, and a senator within 25
the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College; and 26
WHEREAS, her commitment to public service extends beyond the 27
classroom, as evidenced by her internships in the United States 28
Congress, her international studies with the United Nations, and 29
her research endeavors abroad, including the study of cultural 30
heritage in Kyoto, Japan; and 31
WHEREAS, Miss Ware has distinguished herself as an 32
award-winning communicator and storyteller, producing the 33
nationally recognized podcast "Yasmine's Warehouse," which earned 34
top honors in The New York Times' Student Podcast Contest and led 35
to her invitation to the White House as press, reflecting her 36
unique ability to elevate voices and narratives that might 37
otherwise go unheard; and 38
WHEREAS, her dedication to preserving history and advancing 39
community awareness is further exemplified by her receipt of the 40
inaugural James H. Meredith Community Transformation Award, 41
through which she developed the documentary "The Mound Bayou 42
Memoirs," chronicling one of the nation's first all 43

African-American municipalities and emphasizing the importance of 44
cultural preservation; and 45
WHEREAS, Miss Ware's vision for the future is rooted in 46
service to others, as she aspires to pursue a Juris Doctor and 47
advanced graduate studies in public administration and 48
international development, with the goal of working within 49
international institutions to promote peace, security, and 50
cultural heritage preservation; and 51
WHEREAS, Yasmine's selection as a Truman Scholar is a 52
testament not only to her academic excellence and leadership, but 53
also to the unwavering support of her family, including her 54
parents, Dr. Terrance Ware and Zandrea Ware, and her brother, 55
Jacob, whose encouragement has helped shape her strong sense of 56
purpose and commitment to making a meaningful impact in 57
Mississippi and beyond; and 58
WHEREAS, Miss Ware's achievements reflect great credit upon 59
herself, her family, the University of Mississippi, and the State 60
of Mississippi, and serve as a powerful inspiration to future 61
generations of students who aspire to lead lives of service and 62
distinction; and 63
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to 64
recognize and commend outstanding Mississippians whose 65
accomplishments bring honor to this state and exemplify the 66
highest ideals of leadership, scholarship and service, as 67
demonstrated by Yasmine Ware: 68

ST: Yasmine Ware; commend and congratulate upon
being named a 2025 Harry S. Truman Scholar.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 69
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby 70
commend and congratulate Yasmine Ware upon being named a 2025 71
Harry S. Truman Scholar, becoming the University of Mississippi's 72
20th recipient of this distinguished honor, and extend sincerest 73
wishes for continued success in all her future endeavors. 74
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 75
furnished to Yasmine Ware, the Chancellor of the University of 76
Mississippi and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps. 77
