HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 163
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE LAFAYETTE 1
COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL COMMODORES BASEBALL TEAM ON WINNING THE 2025 2
MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION (MHSAA) CLASS 5A 3
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. 4
WHEREAS, on May 22, 2025, in a nail-biter of a game that will 5
surely be remembered for years to come, the Lafayette County High 6
School Commodores Baseball Team captured the 2025 Mississippi High 7
School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 5A State Championship 8
held in Pearl, Mississippi; and 9
WHEREAS, following the team's impressive 7-1 win in Game 1 a 10
day earlier, the Commodores secured the title by defeating the 11
South Jones Varsity Braves 2-0 in the series with a 9-6 victory in 12
Game 2 after rallying late in the slugfest to overcome a 6-3 13
deficit by scoring six runs in the last two innings; and 14
WHEREAS, in recognition of his outstanding play, Collin 15
Waldrip, who helped lead the way for the Commodores by going 16
3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs, was named the 2025 17
Championship Series Most Valuable Player; and 18

WHEREAS, having made a 2024 appearance at the championship 19
and finishing as state runner-up, the Lafayette County Baseball 20
Team arrived at Trustmark Park more determined than ever to return 21
home to Oxford as the state champs, marking only the second time 22
in school history since the Commodores' first ever win at the 23
series in 2006; and 24
WHEREAS, the team's success throughout the season would not 25
have been possible without the endless training and hard work of 26
each of the following talented student-athletes who comprised the 27
2025 Commodores team: Levi Hamm, Easton Thompson, Ian Robinson, 28
Mclain Corban, Brett Williams, Jack McMinn, Landon Cobbs, Max 29
Roberts, Ian Mayo, Tanner Harris, Luke Anderson, Collin Waldrip, 30
Sterlin Smith, Emmett Thompson, Flecther Atkinson, John Mcdougal, 31
Javin Mitchell, Taylor John, Lawson Fortner, Carter Ewing, Caleb 32
Guest, Reese Ingram, Lane Theobald, Max Mooney, Michael Robbins, 33
Gage Perkins and Andrew Farmer; and 34
WHEREAS, the 2025 Commodores were superbly coached and 35
inspired by Head Coach John Walker and Assistant Coaches Caleb 36
Reno and Jonathan Lindsey, all of whom broadened the players' 37
knowledge of the game while refining their skills in execution; 38
and 39
WHEREAS, the Commodores Baseball Team have been supported in 40
their athletic endeavors and can attribute much of their success 41
to the administration, staff, parents, fans and overall supporters 42
whose encouragement has remained fervent year after year; and 43

commend on winning 2025 MHSAA State
Championship.
WHEREAS, consistently displaying a high-level of commitment, 44
mental toughness and resilience, members of the Lafayette County 45
Commodores Baseball Team are known for their winning and 46
cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their 47
activities and attitude both on and off the field reflect great 48
credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring 49
honor to Lafayette County High School; and 50
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to 51
recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the 52
youth of our state, such as the 2025 Lafayette County Commodores 53
Baseball Team, who are its future: 54
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 55
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby 56
commend and congratulate the Lafayette County High School 57
Commodores Baseball Team and their coaches on winning the 2025 58
Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 5A 59
State Championship and express sincere wishes for continued 60
success in all their future endeavors. 61
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 62
furnished to Head Coach John Walker on behalf of the Lafayette 63
County High School Commodores Baseball Team and to the members of 64
the Capitol Press Corps. 65
