HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 24
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE SOUTH PIKE 1
HIGH SCHOOL BOYS AND GIRLS POWERLIFTING TEAMS FOR WINNING THE 2
MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION (MHSAA) CLASS 2A 3
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. 4
WHEREAS, the South Pike High School Boys and Girls 5
Powerlifting Teams reigned supreme at the Mississippi High School 6
Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 2A State Championship, an 7
incredible accomplishment reflecting years of dedication, 8
discipline, teamwork and extraordinary coaching; and 9
WHEREAS, fans crowded the Mississippi Coliseum to watch the 10
South Pike High School Boys and Girls Powerlifting Teams showcase 11
their exemplary skill at the state championship after their 12
impressive South State victories, and the teams did not 13
disappoint, as they captured their eleventh and twelfth 14
championship titles with their exceptional performances; and 15
WHEREAS, the South Pike teams have ascended to the pinnacle 16
of powerlifting excellence this season thanks to the hard work and 17
unmatched spirit of the dedicated student-athletes, whose hours of 18
practice spent deadlifting, squatting and bench pressing paid off 19

in spades as they faced the state's top athletes and emerged 20
triumphant; and 21
WHEREAS, in 2002, Tyrone Varnado became the South Pike High 22
School Powerlifting Coach, unaware that his leadership would 23
establish a lasting dynasty as he built the program into a 24
powerful force to be reckoned with, and in the 24 years he has 25
spent coaching these outstanding teams, Coach Varnado has 26
broadened the athletes' knowledge of the sport and refined their 27
skills in execution, leading his teams to victory time and time 28
again; and 29
WHEREAS, the members of these distinguished teams will surely 30
treasure the memories they have made throughout their remarkable 31
season, constantly flooded with the feeling of greatness that 32
accompanies being a champion as they look with pride upon their 33
many banners hanging in the Willie E. Jones Coliseum; and 34
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to 35
recognize and commend outstanding Mississippi student-athletes, 36
especially those such as the South Pike High School Boys and Girls 37
Powerlifting Teams, and it is with great pride that we 38
congratulate this elite group of student-athletes, who have 39
brought honor and pride to their school, their community and the 40
State of Mississippi: 41
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 42
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby 43
commend and congratulate the South Pike High School Boys and Girls 44

ST: South Pike High School Powerlifting teams;
commend on winning MHSAA state championship.
Powerlifting Teams upon winning the Mississippi High School 45
Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 2A State Championship, and 46
extend best wishes to the teams for continued success in all their 47
future endeavors. 48
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 49
furnished to the South Pike High School Boys and Girls 50
Powerlifting Teams and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps. 51
