HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 39
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING COACH LARRY TYRONE 1
UPON HIS SELECTION AS AN INDUCTEE INTO THE VICKSBURG-WARREN SCHOOL 2
DISTRICT ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME. 3
WHEREAS, in recognition of his excellent leadership and 4
outstanding success as a coach and mentor, Coach Larry Tyrone was 5
inducted into the Vicksburg-Warren School District Athletics Hall 6
of Fame during a ceremony held in late 2025 at the Vicksburg 7
Convention Center; and 8
WHEREAS, one of nine elite individuals selected for the 2025 9
class of inductees, Coach Tyrone stands apart for his outstanding 10
achievements, steadfast dedication and longstanding contributions 11
to the district's athletic programs and the overall school 12
community; and 13
WHEREAS, Coach Tyrone established himself as a cornerstone of 14
one of the most successful athletic programs in the state, serving 15
as a coach for track and field and football at Warren Central 16
Junior High School and Warren Central High School from 1982 17
through 2017; and 18

WHEREAS, in 1982, Coach Tyrone founded the school's first 19
competitive eighth grade track team, laying the foundation for 20
long-term success at the varsity level; and 21
WHEREAS, Coach Tyrone also played a key role on the varsity 22
football coaching staff as an assistant coach and offensive 23
coordinator, and his leadership helped guide numerous players to 24
college football opportunities, while many others credit his 25
mentorship with shaping them into successful men beyond the field; 26
and 27
WHEREAS, always pushing his players to achieve more than they 28
thought possible, Coach Tyrone was known for his demanding 29
coaching style and creative disciplinary drills — famously labeled 30
"Devil Dips" and "Gorillas" — and he earned widespread respect for 31
his ability to develop both the skills and the character of his 32
athletes; and 33
WHEREAS, Coach Tyrone worked under four different head 34
coaches in his 35 years as a coach for Warren Central, and he 35
helped lead his teams to victory in 1988 and 1994 during the 36
program's state championship seasons; and 37
WHEREAS, dedicated to community engagement both for the 38
school district and beyond, Coach Tyrone is a proud member of Phi 39
Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated and previously served as 40
president of the Kappa Epsilon Sigma Chapter; and 41
WHEREAS, Coach Tyrone's name remains synonymous with 42
excellence throughout the halls of Warren Central, and it is most 43

fitting to commend his remarkable career, his lasting impact on 44
the Warren Central's strong tradition of athletic success and his 45
role in shaping the school district's profound legacy; and 46
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to 47
recognize and commend outstanding Mississippians, especially those 48
such as Coach Larry Tyrone, whose years of impeccable leadership 49
and positive influence on generations of student-athletes 50
represents the best of Vicksburg-Warren School District's rich 51
athletic history: 52
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 53
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby 54
commend and congratulate Coach Larry Tyrone upon his selection as 55
an inductee into the Vicksburg-Warren School District Athletics 56
Hall of Fame, and wish him continued success in all his future 57
endeavors. 58
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 59
furnished to Coach Larry Tyrone and to the members of the Capitol 60
Press Corps. 61
