HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 40
A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING JORDAN ANTHONY FOR 1
WINNING THE 2025 BOWERMAN AWARD AND FOR HIS MANY EXTRAORDINARY 2
ACCOMPLISHMENTS. 3
WHEREAS, track and field champion, Jordan Anthony, of 4
Tylertown, Mississippi, has won the 2025 Bowerman Award, a truly 5
outstanding achievement; and 6
WHEREAS, while a student at Tylertown High School, Jordan won 7
the Gatorade Track and Field Player of the Year Award in the 8
2020-2021 and 2021-2022 seasons, and he set new records in the 9
State of Mississippi for the 100m (10.12s) and 200m (20.35s), 10
earning national acclaim as one of America's fastest high school 11
sprinters; and 12
WHEREAS, in 2021, Jordan won both the Nike 100m and the 13
Adidas Boston Boost High School Games 100m championship titles, 14
and in 2022, he won the indoor Nike National 60m and 200m as well 15
as the outdoor USA Track and Field (USATF) under 20 200m 16
championship titles; and 17

WHEREAS, in 2025, Jordan was named National Collegiate 18
Athletic Association (NCAA) champion, winning both the indoor 60m 19
and the outdoor 100m events, and SEC champion, winning the indoor 20
60m and the outdoor 100m and 200m events; and 21
WHEREAS, as an University of Arkansas Razorback, Jordan broke 22
program records for the 60m (6.47s) and 100m (9.75s) dashes, 23
making him the ninth fastest runner in the history of the world, 24
and his brilliant performance while at Arkansas culminated in his 25
winning the 2025 Bowerman Award, recognizing him as the top 26
student-athlete in American collegiate track and field; and 27
WHEREAS, after winning the 2025 NCAA championship in Eugene, 28
Oregon, in June 2025, Jordan announced that he was officially 29
turning pro in track and field, and he was a dual-sport athlete at 30
the University of Arkansas, competing as a sprinter and a wide 31
receiver on the football team, and now, he will focus solely on 32
his professional track career, and with his exceptional speed, he 33
is considered a contender for Team USA at future Olympic games; 34
and 35
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to 36
honor outstanding Mississippians, especially those such as Jordan 37
Anthony, who has exemplified the highest standards of excellence 38
and has brought honor to Tylertown, Walthall County, the State of 39
Mississippi, and to all the individuals and communities inspired 40
by his stellar character, dedication and extraordinary 41
achievements: 42

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 43
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby 44
recognize and commend Jordan Anthony for winning the 2025 Bowerman 45
Award and for his many extraordinary accomplishments. 46
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 47
furnished to Jordan Anthony and to the members of the Capitol 48
Press Corps. 49
