A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE DYNAMIC LADIES 1
OF DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY, INCORPORATED, ON THE AUSPICIOUS 2
OCCASION OF HOSTING ITS MISSISSIPPI DELTA DAYS AT THE CAPITOL ON 3
FEBRUARY 15-16, 2026. 4
WHEREAS, the distinguished ladies of Delta Sigma Theta 5
Sorority, Incorporated, will host its annual Delta Days at the 6
Capitol (DDAC) in Jackson, Mississippi, on February 15-16, 2026, 7
heralding the theme "Solid in Our Sisterhood, Secure in Our 8
Fight", to highlight issues that are in alignment with their 9
dedication to progress, advocacy and unity while asserting their 10
dynamic organization's presence, voice and influence in its 11
mission for change; and 12
WHEREAS, their annual journey to the State Capitol building 13
is a time for the bold women of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, 14
Incorporated, to engage with elected officials and promote 15
awareness for important legislative issues impacting the 16
community, and paired with the goal of advocating and asserting 17
the collective strength of the members of this sisterhood to work 18
strategically within the legislative process; and 19

WHEREAS, motivated by their need to hold true to the esteemed 20
organization's legacy and commitment to advancing its arm of 21
public service, the collective goal of the audacious ladies of 22
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, for their 2026 Delta 23
Days at the Capitol is to focus on Broadband Access and Public 24
Utilities, Education, Election Integrity, Voting Rights and Voter 25
Protection, Environmental Justice, Health Equity and Housing 26
Affordability; and 27
WHEREAS, the organization's focus is strategic because they 28
understand that families facing eviction also face a lack of 29
access to essential services and often suffer from poor health due 30
to a lack of health coverage or affordability of health coverage; 31
and 32
WHEREAS, Delta Days at the Capitol remain a vitally important 33
component of this organization's local and national agenda to 34
educate and stimulate its members regarding public policy and 35
advocacy, while highlighting the more than 112 years of the 36
organization's commitment to social action as it remains 37
politically engaged with policy implementation in the State of 38
Mississippi; and 39
WHEREAS, with public service always at the forefront, the 40
organization has partnered with the Mississippi Center for Justice 41
to provide free expungement for those citizens who seek to restore 42
his or her vote as a testament during Delta Days at the Capitol in 43
keeping with the mission and motto established by its founders and 44

highlighting its nine cardinal values, as best symbolized by the 45
nine jewels incorporated into the Sigma emblem: Honesty, Purity, 46
Fidelity, Justice, Compassion, Dedication, Fellowship, Temperance 47
and Courtesy; and 48
WHEREAS, because the national and local organizations remain 49
engaged in causes that impact the communities of its members 50
through political engagement and social reform, the regional and 51
local chapters work hard to execute plans of action with precision 52
and finality; and 53
WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, is a 54
national, nonprofit and nonpartisan sisterhood and public service 55
organization represented by over 1,000 chapters throughout the 56
United States, England, Japan, Germany, the Virgin Islands, the 57
Bahamas and the Republic of Korea, including its numerous chapters 58
within the State of Mississippi; and 59
WHEREAS, public service and social change have been 60
synonymous with this organization since its founding in 1913, and 61
sparked a movement since its growth to more than 300,000 members 62
internationally through policy platforms that have served as the 63
catalysts driving Delta Days for the past three decades to uphold 64
the mantle of answering the call to civic, social and political 65
activism; and 66
WHEREAS, the continuity of Delta Days at the Capitol is a 67
testament to the legacy, mission and motto established by its 68
founders because the national and local organizations remain 69

passionately engaged in causes that impact the communities of its 70
members through political engagement and social reform, the 71
regional and local chapters work hard to execute plans of action 72

WHEREAS, the zealous and dedicated steering committee for 74
this year's Delta Days at the Capitol includes: Southern Regional 75
Director, Amaris L. Johnson; Southern Regional Representative, 76
Noel G. Seymour; Regional Social Action Coordinator, Waikinya J.S. 77
Clanton; Mississippi Social Action Coordinator, Timaka 78
James-Jones; Mississippi Social Action Co-Coordinator, Kia Jones; 79
Mississippi State Coordinator, Karla L. Edwards; and the 80
Mississippi State Facilitator, Kaitlin Myricks; and 81
WHEREAS, in their steadfast commitment to remain the voice 82
for the voiceless in the many communities served by the 83
organization, both alumnae and collegiate chapters are expected, 84
during the two-day Delta Days at the Capitol event, to engage in 85
workshops and sessions led by experts in various areas of 86
political, social and civic involvement, geared toward raising 87
member awareness and increasing member involvement in the public 88
policy-making process; and 89
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to 90
commend dedicated civic organizations, such as Delta Sigma Theta 91
Sorority, Incorporated, that has given and continue to give 92
countless volunteer hours to educate and improve communities 93
throughout this great state, the nation and the world: 94

commend the dynamic ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, 97
Incorporated, upon the auspicious occasion of hosting its 98
Mississippi Delta Days at the Capitol, under the advocacy theme 99
"Solid in Our Sisterhood, Secure in Our Fight" on February 15-16, 100

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 102
furnished to the Mississippi Chapters of Delta Sigma Theta 103
