HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 52
A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE TREMENDOUS WORK OF VETERANS 1
OUTREACH AND COMMENDING THE ORGANIZATION'S EFFORTS TO IMPROVE THE 2
LIVES OF OUR AMERICAN HEROES THROUGH SERVICE AND FELLOWSHIP. 3
WHEREAS, with remarkable dedication and steadfast care for 4
America's truest heroes, Veterans OutReach has faithfully served 5
Mississippi's veterans since 2009, helping the residents of the 6
Mississippi State Veterans Homes in Collins and Kosciusko feel 7
respected, supported and at home; and 8
WHEREAS, the mission of Veterans OutReach is to provide 9
spiritual guidance, counseling and essential goods and services 10
not otherwise supplied by the State of Mississippi or other 11
government agencies to veterans residing in the Mississippi State 12
Veterans Homes; and 13
WHEREAS, the Mississippi State Veterans Homes are state-owned 14
and operated facilities providing care to veterans, many of whom 15
arrive medically indigent, elderly, homeless or without family 16
support, and in need of basic necessities and companionship; and 17

WHEREAS, working in close coordination with nursing home 18
staff, Veterans OutReach endeavors to identify unmet needs and 19
provide assistance in a manner that preserves the dignity of each 20
veteran and avoids preferential treatment; and 21
WHEREAS, from whirlpool tubs and air mattresses to 22
nebulizers, oxygen concentrators, and lifts and chairs, Veterans 23
OutReach has provided equipment and furniture to the residents of 24
Mississippi State Veterans Homes, equipping them with what they 25
need to live comfortably while making their environment feel like 26
home; and 27
WHEREAS, Veterans OutReach conducts numerous ongoing projects 28
to enhance the quality of life for resident veterans and, through 29
its efforts, the organization has been able to provide residents 30
with various individual and communal goods, including clothing, 31
shoes, personal items, computers, game tables and a grand piano 32
for the chapel; and 33
WHEREAS, beyond addressing their physical needs, the devoted 34
volunteers of Veterans OutReach are also committed to meeting the 35
social needs of each veteran, making regular personal visits to 36
residents, fostering lasting bonds of friendship, and expressing 37
appreciation, respect and compassion for those who have selflessly 38
served our nation; and 39
WHEREAS, Veterans OutReach hosts and organizes social events 40
to nurture a sense of community and bring people together, 41
including bingo games, cookouts, tailgating parties, birthday 42

celebrations and holiday parties, giving veterans an opportunity 43
to enjoy fellowship with each other; and 44
WHEREAS, encouraging members of the community to get involved 45
and give back to those who have given so much, Veterans OutReach 46
funds, plans and conducts an annual Adopt-A-Veteran Christmas Gift 47
Drive, building spirit and appreciation for our veterans while 48
benefiting their lives in tangible ways; and 49
WHEREAS, through its unwavering commitment to service, 50
Veterans OutReach has demonstrated a profound dedication to 51
honoring and caring for Mississippi's most vulnerable and often 52
forgotten veterans; and 53
WHEREAS, the admirable work and positive impact of Veterans 54
OutReach has garnered the gratitude and support of Mississippi 55
Veterans Affairs, as they stand united in their goal to honor and 56
care for our state's veterans; and 57
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to 58
honor fine organizations driven by a mission to serve the brave 59
United States soldiers who have risked their lives for us during a 60
vulnerable time in their lives, especially those such as Veterans 61
OutReach, an outstanding model for volunteer groups across the 62
state and throughout the nation: 63
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 64
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby 65
commend Veterans OutReach for its outstanding service and 66
dedication to the veterans of the State of Mississippi and express 67

ST: Veterans Outreach; recognize and commend
for services provided to veterans.
sincere gratitude to the volunteers, supporters and leadership of 68
Veterans OutReach for their continued commitment to honoring, 69
supporting and caring for Mississippi's veterans. 70
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 71
furnished to Veterans OutReach and to the members of the Capitol 72
Press Corps. 73
