HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 55
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE CALHOUN CITY 1
HIGH SCHOOL WILDCATS FOOTBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH M.D. JENNINGS ON 2
WINNING THE 2025 MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION 3
(MHSAA) CLASS 1A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. 4
WHEREAS, on December 4, 2025, in a cold, rain-soaked game 5
that won't be forgotten for years to come, the Calhoun City High 6
School Wildcats Football Team emerged victorious against the 7
Simmons High School Blue Devils in the 2025 Mississippi High 8
School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 1A State Championship 9
with a narrow 14-8 win at Davis Wade Stadium on the campus of 10
Mississippi State University; and 11
WHEREAS, finishing the season with a phenomenal 13-1 record, 12
Calhoun City's championship performance in a game marked by the 13
sloppiest of playing conditions showcased the team's mental 14
stamina and fierce determination to win along with the players' 15
exceptional talent; and 16
WHEREAS, Calhoun City, knowing the Blue Devils would be 17
giving it their all on their third consecutive attempt for a 18
seemingly elusive championship trophy, had a rough start, with the 19

Blue Devils taking an 8-0 lead in the first quarter before the 20
Wildcats' Demarious Pittman answered with a six-yard touchdown 21
followed by a two-point conversion; and 22
WHEREAS, a scoreless second quarter sent both teams to the 23
locker room at halftime all tied up at 8-8, but with just eight 24
seconds remaining in the third quarter, the undaunted Wildcats 25
pounced when running back Xavian Pittman rushed for a 33-yard 26
touchdown, securing Calhoun's City 14-8 victory that earned the 27
three-time state champions their first golden ball since 2016; and 28
WHEREAS, with a cold rain pouring down most of the evening, 29
the championship game was largely a battle of the defenses, with 30
both teams having suffered three turnovers and combined for a mere 31
240 yards of offense, but the Wildcats' powerhouse defense reigned 32
supreme, holding the Blue Devils to just 45 plays and 97 total 33
yards; and 34
WHEREAS, the team's success throughout the season would not 35
have been possible without the endless training and hard work of 36
each of the following talented student-athletes who comprise the 37
2025 Wildcats football team: Jaylon Jackson, Trell Dorrough, 38
Jaquavion Jennings, Shane Farmer, Demarious Pittman, Xavian 39
Pittman, Kejuan Armstrong, Blake Lawrence, Harland Pittman, Bryson 40
West, Dereon Mays, Kayden Holland, Za Gary, Aden Hill, Brennan 41
Lawrence, Jamarious Hill, Jamarion Deloach, Kari Ewing, Makavion 42
Wilson, Makevion Gray, Kayden Hardin, Kemauri Salley, Deshun 43

WHEREAS, the players have been superbly coached and inspired 47
by Head Coach M.D. Jennings and assistant coaches Sawyer Byars, 48
Cameron Clarke, Travis England, Chakel Gates, Bradley Mitchell and 49
Justin Moore, all of whom have broadened the players' knowledge of 50
the game while refining their skills in execution; and 51
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to 52
recognize and honor the achievements of student-athletes such as 53
the Calhoun City High School Wildcats Football Team, who have 54
brought honor to their families, school, community and the State 55
of Mississippi: 56
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 57
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby 58
commend and congratulate the Calhoun City High School Wildcats 59
Football Team and Head Coach M.D. Jennings on winning the 2025 60
Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 1A 61
State Championship and extend best wishes for continued success in 62
all their future athletic and academic endeavors. 63
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 64
furnished to Head Coach M.D. Jennings on behalf of Calhoun City 65
High School and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps. 66
