HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 56
A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING THE SOUTH JONES HIGH 1
SCHOOL "BAND OF BRAVES" MARCHING BAND FOR WINNING THE 2025 BANDS 2
OF AMERICA CLASS A GRAND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. 3
WHEREAS, the South Jones High School "Band of Braves" 4
Marching Band has built a reputation as one of the most successful 5
performing arts groups in the State of Mississippi, a truly 6
outstanding achievement; and 7
WHEREAS, South Jones High School in Ellisville, Mississippi, 8
has proudly served the Jones County School District ever since it 9
opened its doors in 1965, and under the current leadership of 10
Superintendent Dr. B.R. Jones, and the band leadership of Brian 11
Joyce, the Band of Braves has grown into one of the region's most 12
respected and accomplished music programs; and 13
WHEREAS, from its earliest days, the band has maintained a 14
tradition of excellence, consistently earning superior ratings at 15
festivals and competitions in both marching and concert 16
performance, and that commitment to musical artistry, discipline, 17
and teamwork has taken the Band of Braves across the United 18

States, where they have performed for audiences nationwide while 19
representing their school, community and state with pride; and 20
WHEREAS, beyond competitive success, the South Jones Band 21
remains deeply connected to its community, and the program is a 22
familiar and welcomed presence at local parades, community 23
festivals, civic celebrations, and church events, embodying the 24
spirit of service and school pride that defines South Jones High 25
School; and 26
WHEREAS, in recent years, the Band of Braves has reached new 27
heights on the state, regional, and national stage, earning 28
numerous prestigious honors, including: 2025 Band of America 29
(BOA) Class A Grand National Champions; 2023 BOA Southeastern 30
Regional Grand Champion - Troy University; BOA Regional Class 31
Champions - Jacksonville State University (2021); East Tennessee 32
University (2022); Mississippi 5A State Marching Champions (2019, 33
2021-2025); 2019 WGI Winds Scholastic Open International Champions 34
and Mississippi Sweepstakes Award Winners (2017-2019, 2021-2025); 35
and 36
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to 37
recognize and commend outstanding Mississippi students, especially 38
those such as the members of the South Jones High School "Band of 39
Braves" Marching Band, who have brought honor to South Jones High 40
School and to the State of Mississippi: 41
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 42
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby 43

ST: South Jones High School Band; commend for
winning the 2025 Bands of America Grand National
Championship.
recognize and commend the members of the South Jones High School 44
"Band of Braves" Marching Band for winning the 2025 Bands Of 45
America Class A Grand National Championship, and extend best 46
wishes for continued success in all their future endeavors. 47
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 48
furnished to Mr. Brian Joyce, Director of Bands, and to the 49
members of the Capitol Press Corps. 50
