A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND HONORING ATTORNEY JARIBU HILL 1
UPON THE OUTSTANDING OCCASION OF HER 30TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY WITH 2
THE MISSISSIPPI WORKERS' CENTER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS. 3
WHEREAS, as a Civil and Human Rights attorney, Jaribu Hill, 4
Founder and Executive Director of the Mississippi Workers' Center 5
for Human Rights, is celebrating her 30th anniversary with this 6
outstanding organization; and 7
WHEREAS, through her organization, Attorney Hill has provided 8
legal representation and advocacy for hundreds of workers in the 9
State of Mississippi, and her efforts have led to the adoption of 10
"Zero Tolerance Against Hate" policies being implemented in 11
workplaces across the state, and she also won an important 12
judgment against the Ku Klux Klan in Pelion, South Carolina, and 13
has assisted Mississippi Delta parents in their fight for school 14
equity; and 15
WHEREAS, as an author and an international spokesperson on 16
Civil and Human Rights topics, and in support of the human rights 17

struggles of workers across the globe, Attorney Hill has traveled 18
to Asia, Africa, Europe and the Caribbean; and 19
WHEREAS, Attorney Hill has been the recipient of numerous 20
honors and awards, including the coveted Gloria Award, named for 21
Gloria Steinem, and she is a Skadden Fellow and the recipient of 22
the R. Jess Brown, the highest award given to a Mississippi lawyer 23
by the Magnolia Bar Association; and 24
WHEREAS, additionally, Attorney Hill was a legal observer and 25
cultural artist during the Women in War Crimes Tribunal, held in 26
Tokyo, Japan, in December 2000, and the author of the poem, 27
"Haunting Mirrors," written to honor Comfort Women and other 28
victims of sexual slavery, and excerpts from this poem were made 29
part of the important judgment rendered during the Tribunal; and 30
WHEREAS, Attorney Hill is admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court, 31
serves as a Special Master in Washington County's Chancery Court 32
and serves on Mississippi's Access to Justice Commission, and she 33
is also a former Municipal Judge for the City of Hollandale, 34
Mississippi; and 35
WHEREAS, Attorney Hill has written numerous articles and is 36
published in law reviews and journals, including Southern 37
University Law Review, Columbia University Black Law Journal, and 38
Columbia University Law Review, and she is the author of Knowledge 39
is Power—A Know Your Rights Manual and co-author of The Black 40
College Guide, and has appeared on various television and radio 41
programs, including TV One's acclaimed series: Murder in Black 42

and White, and she hosts "Talking Rights With Jaribu", a weekly 43
radio program on WDSV 91.9 FM; and 44
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to 45
commend extraordinary Mississippians, especially those such as 46
Attorney Hill, whose dedication to civil and human rights brings 47
honor to the State of Mississippi: 48
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 49
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby 50
recognize and honor Attorney Jaribu Hill upon her 30th year 51
anniversary with the Mississippi Workers' Center for Human Rights, 52
and extend best wishes for continued success in all her future 53
endeavors. 54
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 55
furnished to Attorney Jaribu Hill and to the members of the 56
Capitol Press Corps. 57
