A RESOLUTION ACKNOWLEDGING THE OBSERVATION OF THE "REST Y'ALL 1
MISSISSIPPI COLLECTIVE DAY OF REST" TO BE RECOGNIZED ANNUALLY ON 2
MARCH 20, THE FIRST DAY OF SPRING, THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF 3
MISSISSIPPI. 4
WHEREAS, the State of Mississippi continues to confront 5
significant public health challenges associated with chronic 6
stress, burnout, cardiovascular disease, mental health strain and 7
caregiver fatigue affecting individuals, families and communities 8
across the state; and 9
WHEREAS, research and public health guidance consistently 10
affirm that intentional rest and recovery are essential to 11
physical health, emotional regulation, mental well-being, 12
workplace productivity and long-term resilience; and 13
WHEREAS, rest is not inactivity, but a preventative and 14
life-sustaining wellness practice that strengthens individuals, 15
supports families and enhances the sustainability of communities; 16
and 17
WHEREAS, Black women in Mississippi are disproportionately 18
impacted by chronic stress due to intersecting responsibilities as 19

caregivers, professionals, community leaders and family anchors, 20
which may contribute to adverse health and wellness outcomes; and 21
WHEREAS, Black Women DO Heal, Inc., a nonprofit organization 22
with strong Mississippi roots, provides community-based wellness 23
leadership and promotes rest, recovery and sustainability as 24
essential components of holistic health and well-being; and 25
WHEREAS, the first day of Spring symbolizes renewal, 26
restoration and new beginnings, aligning with the values of 27
healing, balance and sustainability for individuals and 28
communities throughout Mississippi; and 29
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to 30
recognize initiatives that promote awareness of public health, 31
wellness and preventative practices that strengthen the people of 32
this state: 33
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 34
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby 35
acknowledge and recognize March 20 of each year, the first day of 36
Spring, as the "REST Y'all Mississippi Collective Day of Rest," 37
encouraging Mississippians to embrace intentional practices of 38
rest, reflection and renewal in support of individual and 39
community well-being. 40
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That public agencies, private 41
businesses, educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, 42
healthcare systems, faith-based organizations and community groups 43
are encouraged to acknowledge this day through voluntary, 44

activities, reduced meetings, quiet spaces or educational 46
conversations addressing stress and burnout. 47
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That participation in the "REST Y'all 48
Mississippi Collective Day of Rest" is voluntary and nonmandatory, 49
intended solely to promote awareness, holistic health and 50
sustainability across the State of Mississippi. 51
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 52
furnished to Black Women DO Heal, Inc., and to the members of the 53
Capitol Press Corps. 54
