HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 63
A RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING THE MISSISSIPPI HOUSE OF 1
REPRESENTATIVES SOFTBALL TEAM AND COACH TROY SMITH FOR WINNING THE 2
BATTLE OF THE TOMBIGBEE. 3
WHEREAS, the Mississippi House of Representatives Softball 4
Team clinched a well-deserved victory when they defeated members 5
of the Alabama Legislature to win the second annual Battle of the 6
Tombigbee in Birmingham, Alabama; and 7
WHEREAS, striving to win with unparalleled motivation and 8
ardent determination, the Mississippi House of Representatives 9
Softball Team played their best, as their mental stamina and 10
athletic prowess never wavered from the moment they first walked 11
onto that red, dusty diamond, until they scored five runs in the 12
top of the ninth inning to break the tie; and 13
WHEREAS, the matchup ended as a thrilling 16-11 victory over 14
the Alabama team, with the proceeds from the game benefitting the 15
Children's of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama; and 16
WHEREAS, in addition to reigning supreme against the Alabama 17
Legislature, the Mississippi House of Representatives Softball 18

ST: MS House of Representatives Softball Team;
commend for winning the Battle of Tombigbee.
Team took on its neighbors from the Louisiana House of 19
Representatives in a friendly softball game in Baton Rouge, 20
Louisiana, and dominated with a 23-8 victory; and 21
WHEREAS, in their tireless dedication, the Mississippi House 22
of Representatives Softball Team have developed a winning, 23
cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their 24
activities and attitudes reflect great credit upon the individual 25
players and Coach Smith, bringing honor to the State of 26
Mississippi; and 27
WHEREAS, it is most fitting to recognize and commend the 28
superb accomplishments of the Mississippi House of Representatives 29
Softball Team, whose excellence on the field brings honor to the 30
State of Mississippi: 31
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 32
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby 33
commend and congratulate the Mississippi House of Representatives 34
Softball Team and Coach Troy Smith upon winning the Battle of the 35
Tombigbee and extend best wishes to the team for continued success 36
in all their future endeavors. 37
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 38
furnished to the Mississippi House of Representatives Softball 39
Team, Coach Troy Smith, and to the members of the Capitol Press 40
Corps. 41
