A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING THE BLACKBURN MIDDLE 1
SCHOOL PANTHERS FOOTBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE MIDDLE SCHOOL 2
FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. 3
WHEREAS, the Blackburn Middle School Panthers Football Team 4
capped off an outstanding season with an exciting 18–14 victory 5
over Nichols Middle School in the Middle School Football 6
Championship Game earlier this season, finishing the year 7
undefeated, earning a perfect 9–0 record; and 8
WHEREAS, offensively, the team averaged 30 points a game, 9
while defense delivered six shutouts in the nine games played, and 10
during each game in their rise to the top, the Panthers mental 11
stamina and determination never waivered from the moment they ran 12
onto the field until the last down was played, and their hard work 13
and motivation were so apparent throughout the entire season; and 14
WHEREAS, the Panthers are comprised of the following talented 15
student-athletes: Jarquis Brown, Jarvis Brown, Jay Brown, Teryji 16
Burns, Brian Collins, Khameron Crockett, King Gardner, Derwin 17
Greenwood, Krishaun Harrison, Brandon Jacob, Armari Johnson, Armon 18

Johnson, Hunter Jones, Elijah Madison, Tequandra McClendon, 19
Cameron McQuitter, Micheal Moore, Marquez Reese, Jakolby Robinson, 20
James Stigger, Darrin Stuckey and Michael Thorton; and 21
WHEREAS, the team also has several scholars who serve in 22
student government roles: Class Representative, Mr. Blackburn, 23
Mr. 8th Grade, and Mr. Homecoming King, and one scholar had the 24
distinguished honor of being one of the top three Algebra 1 25
students, and numerous scholars received Term 1 Benchmark 26
achievements; and 27
WHEREAS, the Panthers have been superbly coached and inspired 28
by Head Coach, Kevin Goss; Assistant Coaches, K.T. Hubbard, Dexter 29
Thomas Nelson, Josh Nelson, Tyrone Powell and Corey Sims; and 30
Athletic Director, Tanisha Walker; and each coach has broadened 31
the team's knowledge of the game while refining their skills in 32
execution; and 33
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to 34
recognize and honor the achievements of student-athletes such as 35
the Blackburn Middle School Panthers Football Team, who have 36
brought honor to their school, the City of Jackson, and to the 37
State of Mississippi: 38
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 39
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby 40
commend and congratulate the Blackburn Middle School Panthers 41
Football Team and Head Coach Kevin Goss for winning the Middle 42
