A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE EAST WEBSTER 1
HIGH SCHOOL WOLVERINES FOOTBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH RON PRICE ON 2
WINNING THE 2025 MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION 3
(MHSAA) CLASS 2A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. 4
WHEREAS, on December 6, 2025, in an incredible game that will 5
surely be remembered for years to come, the East Webster High 6
School Wolverines Football Team clinched its first state title in 7
school history when the team reigned supreme against the 8
Heidelberg High School Oilers with a 28-16 win at Davis Wade 9
Stadium on the campus of Mississippi State University; and 10
WHEREAS, finishing one of their most successful seasons of 11
all time with a sensational 14-1 record, the Wolverines' victory 12
in the 2025 Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) 13
Class 2A State Championship tied a school record for number of 14
wins in a season, with the state title being the 14th consecutive 15
win after the team rebounded from a first-game-of-the-season loss; 16
and 17
WHEREAS, the Wolverines, District 4 2A Champions and 2A North 18
Half Champions, racked up an amazing 583 points in the 2025 19

season, another program record etched in the school's history 20
books during its 40th football season; and 21
WHEREAS, East Webster, 0-2 in state title attempts, appeared 22
to be outmatched at the onset of the contest as the Oilers, 23
determined to retain their 2024 championship title, drove the ball 24
down the field on its first possession and put eight points on the 25
board after a 14-yard run and two-point conversion before the 26
Wolverines, on its first possession, fumbled the ball away on the 27
20-yard line; and 28
WHEREAS, undaunted, with 2:20 left in the first quarter, East 29
Webster came alive when quarterback Kross Avent found receiver 30
Lakendrick Potts on a 42-yard touchdown, ending the quarter with 31
only a one-point deficit; and 32
WHEREAS, the second quarter proved to be a back and forth 33
nailbiter, as the Wolverines took a 14-8 lead after Avent found 34
Lamarkiz McCurry on a 25-yard pass, but seeming relentless, the 35
Oilers answered with just 3:06 remaining on the clock in the first 36
half, scoring again followed by yet another two-point conversion 37
and securing a 16-14 lead before the halftime buzzer sounded; and 38
WHEREAS, unstoppable in its quest to bring home the 39
championship trophy, the Wolverines' unbelievable defense, led by 40
Zamarrien Jones who impressively recorded 13 tackles, kept the 41
Oilers off the board in the second half, while the offense scored 42
on the first drive out of halftime on a 56-yard pass when Avent 43
once again found receiver Potts; and 44

WHEREAS, with just 1:53 remaining on the clock in the final 45
quarter, Avent sealed the championship title for East Webster with 46
a 28-yard touchdown run that extended the Wolverines' lead to 47
28-16 for the victory; and 48
WHEREAS, while each and every member of the Wolverines were 49
essential to East Webster's history-making triumph at the 50
championship matchup, receiver Lakendrick Potts, who dominated 51
with 191 yards on seven receptions and two touchdowns, was named 52
the Championship Most Valuable Player; and 53
WHEREAS, the team's success throughout the season would not 54
have been possible without the endless training and hard work of 55
each of the following talented student-athletes who comprise the 56

WHEREAS, the players have been superbly coached and inspired 72
by Head Coach Ron Price, assistant coaches Jason Smith, Codie 73
Silver, Matt Snow, Brandon Haynes and Blake Hutchinson, and 74
Chaplain Landon Powell, all of whom have broadened the players' 75
knowledge of the game while refining their skills in execution; 76
and 77
WHEREAS, throughout this season, the team has been superbly 78
coached and inspired by Head Coach Ron Price, who along with the 79
assistant coaches, has broadened the players' knowledge of the 80
game while refining their skills in execution; and 81
WHEREAS, the Wolverines' phenomenal achievement in defeating 82
the Heidelberg Oilers is a testament to the steadfast support of 83
the school district and the entire East Webster community, whose 84
encouragement and unwavering belief in their team continue to 85
inspire both on and off the field; and 86
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to 87
recognize and honor the achievements of student-athletes such as 88
the East Webster High School Wolverines Football Team, who have 89
brought honor to their families, school and community and the 90
State of Mississippi: 91
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 92
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby 93
