A RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING THE MISSISSIPPI WORKERS' CENTER 1
FOR HUMAN RIGHTS ON THE OCCASION OF ITS 30TH ANNIVERSARY AND 2
COMMENDING THE ORGANIZATION FOR ITS CONTRIBUTIONS TO IMPROVING THE 3
LIVES OF FELLOW MISSISSIPPIANS. 4
WHEREAS, the Mississippi Workers' Center for Human Rights, a 5
nonprofit entity dedicated to improving the quality of life of the 6
working poor and other residents of the State of Mississippi, 7
reaches an extraordinary milestone in December 2026 when the 8
organization proudly celebrates the 30th anniversary of its 9
founding; and 10
WHEREAS, based in Greenville, Mississippi, the Mississippi 11
Workers' Center for Human Rights was created in 1996 by Civil and 12
Human Rights Attorney Jaribu Hill, who serves as the Executive 13
Director of the Center and has been with the organization for over 14
30 years; and 15
WHEREAS, through public awareness campaigns, legal advocacy 16
and education, the Workers' Center engages with workers to create 17
better workplace conditions and to ensure that all workers are 18
treated with dignity and respect and have equal access to good 19

jobs and humane living conditions, regardless of race, creed, 20
gender or religion; and 21
WHEREAS, as part of a statewide initiative to educate 22
low-wage workers in the Delta and other parts of Mississippi about 23
their rights, the Workers' Center publishes and distributes a 24
manual entitled "Knowledge is Power!", which informs readers on a 25
variety of important topics, including rights protected under the 26
United States Constitution and federal and state laws, along with 27
civics instruction on exercising one's right to vote and 28
participating in a democratic society; and 29
WHEREAS, over the last three decades, the human rights 30
organization has represented and advocated for hundreds of 31
Mississippians, including low-wage Black workers who are the 32
victims of employment discrimination and hostile work 33
environments, as well as parents of school children in the 34
Mississippi Delta fighting for quality and equal education; and 35
WHEREAS, in partnership with client members and other 36
workers' rights organizations, the Workers' Center also endeavors 37
to educate communities by conducting public hearings, town hall 38
meetings and forums, health summits and other meaningful programs 39
designed to improve the standard of living for fellow 40
Mississippians; and 41
WHEREAS, as a result of the Mississippi Workers' Center for 42
Human Rights' work with partners, many employers in the Magnolia 43

State have adopted a zero tolerance policy against all forms of 44
intolerance; and 45
WHEREAS, the Mississippi Workers' Center for Human Rights, 46
fighting for the dignity and safety of all workers, is often the 47
only voice of those suffering - the working poor - who are often 48
robbed of voice and denied their rightful place in society; and 49
WHEREAS, in celebration of its countless successes on behalf 50
of fellow Mississippians, the Mississippi Workers' Center for 51
Human Rights will join human rights defenders and activists from 52
throughout the Southeast and beyond at the biannual Southern Human 53
Rights Organizers Conference (SHROC) in Jackson, Mississippi, in 54
December 2026 to celebrate the 30-year milestones of both the 55
Workers' Center and the SHROC; and 56
WHEREAS, on the occasion of the 30th year of tireless 57
devotion and service by the Mississippi Workers' Center for Human 58
Rights to fellow Mississippians who might otherwise never been 59
heard, it is most appropriate to give special recognition to this 60
outstanding Mississippi organization which, from its humble 61
beginnings to this day, has been a source of support, strength and 62
hope for the least of our brothers and sisters: 63
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 64
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby 65
congratulate the Mississippi Workers' Center for Human Rights on 66
the occasion of the 30th anniversary of its founding and commend 67

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That we do hereby extend sincerest 70
wishes to the Mississippi Workers' Center for Human Rights for 71
continued success and growth for countless years to come. 72
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 73
furnished to the Mississippi Workers' Center for Human Rights and 74
to the members of the Capitol Press Corps. 75
