HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 74
A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING MR. RICKY HOOD, CHIEF 1
EXECUTIVE OFFICER FOR THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS OF EAST 2
MISSISSIPPI, FOR HIS CONTINUOUS HARD WORK AND DEDICATED SERVICE. 3
WHEREAS, for over 35 years, Mr. Ricky Hood has served his 4
community by dedicating his time and hard work to the Boys and 5
Girls Club; and 6
WHEREAS, Mr. Hood is currently the Chief Executive Officer 7
for the Boys and Girls Clubs of East Mississippi, which includes 8
four sites in Lauderdale County, Neshoba County, and Attala 9
County, and with the help of a dedicated staff of 52, many of whom 10
are former club members, the organization served over 900 children 11
daily at the six sites prior to the COVID-19 pandemic; and 12
WHEREAS, throughout the pandemic, the Club provided over 13
2,500 meals daily, and it also provided virtual learning for 14
several of the communities in East Mississippi, and currently, the 15
Boys and Girls Clubs provide services for over 600 children daily; 16
and 17

WHEREAS, born in Montgomery, Alabama, as one of 16 brothers 18
and sisters, Mr. Hood developed a love for the Club at an early 19
age, and he was a member of the West End Boys and Girls Club in 20
Montgomery, where Mike Anderson served as a tremendous mentor for 21
him; and 22
WHEREAS, Mr. Hood graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 23
1978, obtained a basketball scholarship to Mississippi State 24
University, and later transferred and graduated from Murray State 25
University with a degree in business administration; and 26
WHEREAS, upon graduation, Mr. Hood played professional 27
basketball on the international circuit for eight years in 28
Switzerland, Spain, Italy and Portugal, and in 1988, he started 29
working summers at the Boys and Girls Club in Meridian, 30
Mississippi, and the reason he has worked in the Boys and Girls 31
Club for over 35 years is because of his earlier experiences and 32
his deep desire to mentor and help children; and 33
WHEREAS, since serving as the Chief Executive Officer for the 34
Boys and Girls Clubs of East Mississippi, Mr. Hood has garnered 35
numerous awards on the local, state, regional and national level, 36
including the Southeast Regional Herman S. Prescott Award 37
(mentoring), the Errol Sewell Award (leadership), and most 38
recently, the Lou Dantzler Award, and all of this recognition was 39
based on leadership, integrity, respect for others and commitment 40
to excellence; and 41

to the Boys and Girls Clubs of East Mississippi.
WHEREAS, Mr. Hood has also received other awards, including 42
the Mississippi Area Council Professional of the Year, the BGCA 43
regional BLUE STAR AWARD, the NAACP Man of the Year Award, and the 44
Meridian Public Schools Parent of the Year Award; and 45
WHEREAS, outside of his outstanding service with the Boys and 46
Girls Club, Mr. Hood is married to Vicky Hood, a retired educator, 47
and has four children, eight grandchildren and four 48
great-grandchildren; and 49
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to 50
recognize exceptional individuals, especially those such as Mr. 51
Hood, whose extraordinary service brings honor to the Boys and 52
Girls Club and to the State of Mississippi: 53
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 54
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby 55
recognize and commend Mr. Ricky Hood, Chief Executive Officer for 56
the Boys and Girls Clubs of East Mississippi, for his continuous 57
hard work and dedicated service, and extend best wishes for 58
continued success in all his future endeavors. 59
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 60
furnished to Mr. Ricky Hood and to the members of the Capitol 61
Press Corps. 62
