HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 86

A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING MARCH 11, 2026, AS CRIME SURVIVORS 1
SPEAK MISSISSIPPI DAY AT THE STATE CAPITOL. 2
WHEREAS, on March 11, 2026, more than 150 Mississippi crime 3
victims and survivors representing Crime Survivors Speak 4
Mississippi will gather at the Mississippi State Capitol in 5
Jackson, Mississippi, for Survivors Speak Mississippi 2026; and 6
WHEREAS, these victims and survivors are coming together to 7
heal, share their stories, and advocate for policies that promote 8
safety, justice, and healing; and 9
WHEREAS, Survivors Speak Mississippi 2026 is organized by 10
Crime Survivors Speak and local partners committed to advancing 11
public safety and survivor-centered solutions; and 12
WHEREAS, crime and violence impact individuals and 13
communities across Mississippi, regardless of age, national 14
origin, race, creed, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or 15
economic status; and 16
WHEREAS, there is a need for the State of Mississippi to 17
invest in programs and services that assist crime survivors and 18

their families in addressing trauma and the long-term effects of 19
violence; and 20
WHEREAS, Mississippi shall invest in trauma recovery centers 21
and other evidence-based supports that serve as essential 22
wraparound resources for victims and survivors impacted by crime; 23
and 24
WHEREAS, Mississippi shall address immediate safety concerns 25
facing families while also investing in comprehensive strategies 26
that prevent violence and strengthen communities; and 27
WHEREAS, the voices and lived experiences of victims and 28
survivors have too often been overlooked in discussions about 29
public safety and criminal justice policy; and 30
WHEREAS, most victims and crime survivors do not receive the 31
assistance they need, and only a small percentage of survivors 32
receive direct support from victim service agencies; and 33
WHEREAS, crime survivors possess unique insight into gaps 34
within the system and are well-positioned to inform policies that 35
improve access to healing, safety, and justice; and 36
WHEREAS, survivors seek a justice system that prioritizes 37
prevention, rehabilitation, accountability, and trauma recovery: 38
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 39
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby 40
recognize March 11, 2026, as Crime Survivors Speak Mississippi Day 41
at the State Capitol. 42

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the members of this Legislature 43
commend the advocates, organizations, and survivors of Crime 44
Survivors Speak Mississippi for their leadership in supporting 45
victims, preventing violence, and strengthening communities. 46
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 47
furnished to Crime Survivors Speak Mississippi in recognition of 48
this occasion, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps. 49
