A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE FLORENCE HIGH 1
SCHOOL GIRLS SOCCER TEAM FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL 2
ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION (MHSAA) CLASS 5A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. 3
WHEREAS, the Florence High School Girls Soccer Team reigned 4
supreme at the Mississippi High School Activities Association 5
(MHSAA) Class 5A State Championship, bringing home the Gold Ball 6
in their third consecutive title game appearance and marking the 7
team's second state championship win in the last three years; and 8
WHEREAS, fans crowded the stands to watch the Lady Eagles 9
showcase their exemplary skill and grit on the pitch, and the 10
team's spectacular performance did not disappoint as they clinched 11
the championship title in a 4-1 victory over the East Central Lady 12
Hornets; and 13
WHEREAS, Florence took an early lead as Mallory Jackson 14
netted the opening goal in the 5th minute of the championship 15
game, setting the team up for success, and though the Lady Hornets 16
quickly managed to put one past the keeper to momentarily even the 17

score, the Lady Eagles never waivered in determination and stamina 18
as they fought to regain control of the game; and 19
WHEREAS, relying on their elite offense, the Lady Eagles 20
quickly bounced back as Mary Elise Taylor and Jordyn Quick both 21
managed to find the back of the net before halftime, and the 22
team's defense maintained dominance in the second half of the 23
game, refusing to let the Lady Hornets score again; and 24
WHEREAS, Jordyn Quick landed the final blow of the game with 25
another goal and secured the well-earned win for the Lady Eagles 26
in a triumphant finale to their incredible season; and 27
WHEREAS, the team's previous loss in penalty kicks last year 28
lit a fire under the returning competitors, motivating them to 29
train even harder and return to the championship better than 30
before, and their hard work paid off in spades, making their 31
comeback victory that much sweeter; and 32
WHEREAS, after winning four state titles and reaching the 33
state championship for the fifth time, the senior members of the 34
Lady Eagles will surely carry the unforgettable memories they have 35
made during their time on this dynamic team, as well as the 36
lessons of teamwork, dedication and perseverance they have 37
learned, throughout their lives as they remember the feeling of 38
greatness that accompanies being a champion; and 39
WHEREAS, the Lady Eagles have been superbly coached and 40
inspired by Head Coach Bill Hood, who has broadened the team's 41

knowledge of the sport and refined their skills in execution, 42
producing high caliber players and plays; and 43
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to 44
recognize and commend outstanding Mississippi student-athletes, 45
especially those such as the Florence High School Girls Soccer 46
Team, and we congratulate this elite group of student-athletes, 47
whose talent and drive have brought great pride to their school, 48
their community and the State of Mississippi: 49
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 50
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby 51
commend and congratulate the Florence High School Girls Soccer 52
Team upon winning the Mississippi High School Activities 53
Association (MHSAA) Class 5A State Championship, and extend best 54
wishes to the team for continued success in all their future 55
endeavors. 56
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 57
furnished to the Florence High School Girls Soccer Team and to the 58
members of the Capitol Press Corps. 59
