HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 91
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING LADY CORMORANT 1
HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL HEAD COACH CHRISTINA MORGAN UPON HER 2
EXTRAORDINARY COACHING SUCCESS AND HER CONTRIBUTIONS TO ONE OF THE 3
MOST DOMINANT VOLLEYBALL PROGRAMS IN MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL 4
ATHLETICS. 5
WHEREAS, the Mississippi House of Representatives takes great 6
pride in recognizing and honoring individuals whose leadership and 7
dedication have elevated the standard of excellence in athletics, 8
education and mentorship throughout the State of Mississippi; and 9
WHEREAS, Lady Cormorant High School Volleyball Head Coach 10
Christina Morgan has established herself as one of the most 11
accomplished and respected coaches in Mississippi high school 12
athletics, leading the Lady Gators volleyball program with vision, 13
discipline and unwavering commitment since the school's opening; 14
and 15
WHEREAS, under Coach Morgan's leadership, the Lady Gators 16
have built one of the most dominant volleyball dynasties in 17
Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) history, 18

capturing an impressive eight state championships in 2009, 2012, 19
2013, 2020, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025; and 20
WHEREAS, the Lady Gators achieved a historic milestone in 21
November 2025, when they completed an extraordinary fourth 22
consecutive state championship, defeating George County to secure 23
a remarkable "four-peat," an achievement that firmly cements the 24
program among the most successful in the history of Mississippi 25
high school sports; and 26
WHEREAS, Coach Morgan's career is marked by remarkable 27
longevity and success, having surpassed 450 career coaching 28
victories during the 2025 season, a milestone that reflects 29
decades of dedication to the development of student-athletes both 30
on and off the court; and 31
WHEREAS, her coaching excellence has earned national 32
recognition, as she was named the American Volleyball Coaches 33
Association (AVCA) Region 4 Coach of the Year in 2025, an honor 34
bestowed upon only a select few coaches whose programs demonstrate 35
exceptional performance and leadership; and 36
WHEREAS, the Lady Gators' sustained dominance was highlighted 37
during the historic 2024 season, in which the team compiled a 38
39-win record, the most victories in school history, and did not 39
lose a single set to a Class 6A opponent, demonstrating a level of 40
competitive excellence rarely seen in high school athletics; and 41
WHEREAS, since 2022, Coach Morgan has guided the Lady Gators 42
through an unprecedented era of success, including a 2022 Class 5A 43

State Championship victory over Long Beach, a 2023 Class 6A State 44
Championship victory over Hancock, a 2024 Class 6A title in a 45
record-setting season, and a 2025 championship victory over George 46
County, culminating in the historic four-year championship run; 47
and 48
WHEREAS, the program's achievements have also been fueled by 49
a pipeline of elite student-athletes who flourished under Coach 50
Morgan's mentorship, including standout player Sofia Gonzalez, a 51
three-time "Miss Volleyball" honoree and the school's all-time 52
leader in kills, as well as collegiate signees Ma'Kayla Hill and 53
Payton Davis, whose combined contributions helped propel the Lady 54
Gators to championship glory; and 55
WHEREAS, beyond the volleyball court, Coach Morgan's impact 56
extends into the classroom and the broader school community, where 57
she has been recognized as the DeSoto County School District 58
Teacher of the Year, exemplifying excellence not only as a coach 59
but also as an educator and mentor; and 60
WHEREAS, Coach Morgan's leadership, character and unwavering 61
commitment to excellence have cultivated a culture of discipline, 62
teamwork and perseverance at Lake Cormorant High School, inspiring 63
generations of student-athletes and bringing great pride and honor 64
to DeSoto County and the State of Mississippi; and 65
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to 66
recognize and commend individuals whose extraordinary achievements 67

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 70
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby 71
commend and congratulate Head Coach Christina Morgan for her 72
outstanding coaching success and her leadership in building one of 73
the most dominant volleyball programs in Mississippi high school 74
athletics, and extend best wishes for continued success in all her 75
future endeavors. 76
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 77
furnished to Head Coach Christina Morgan and to the members of the 78
Capitol Press Corps. 79
