A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE GERMANTOWN 1
HIGH SCHOOL BAND UPON WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL 2
ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION (MHSAA) CLASS 7A STATE MARCHING BAND 3
CHAMPIONSHIP. 4
WHEREAS, the Germantown High School Band reigned supreme at 5
the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 6
7A State Marching Band Championship, successfully defending their 7
state title and claiming their fifth overall; and 8
WHEREAS, on November 1, 2025, fans crowded the stands at 9
Northwest Rankin High School to watch the top bands from across 10
the state demonstrate their immense skill and musical talent, and 11
the Germantown Band took the competition by storm with a 12
spectacular production titled "Tempest" - a powerful journey 13
through the raw force and haunting beauty of a storm at sea; and 14
WHEREAS, featuring the music of Eric Whitacre and John 15
Mackey, the piece showcased the band's technical proficiency and 16
precise coordination with a strong focus on concert and orchestral 17
music, engaging the audience and impressing the judges; and 18

WHEREAS, the Germantown Band has built a reputation as one of 19
the most prominent performing arts groups in the State of 20
Mississippi, and this year's ensemble has carried the mantle and 21
continued the legacy of achievement established by previous 22
members, securing the band's third state championship win in the 23
last four years; and 24
WHEREAS, earlier in the season, the Germantown Band performed 25
at the Bands of America Super Regional in St. Louis, Missouri, 26
marking their fourth year at the competition, and they proudly 27
represented Mississippi as they competed against 65 elite high 28
school bands from across the United States; and 29
WHEREAS, as if by fate, a storm came to pass in St. Louis 30
during the competition, and as the first group to perform after 31
the storm, the Germantown Band brought the tremendous sound of the 32
raging tempest to the crowd inside; and 33
WHEREAS, the band placed 14th overall at the super regional 34
competition, earning a spot as a finalist in the nationally 35
recognized event and showing the country why Mississippi is 36
rightfully known as the Birthplace of America's Music; and 37
WHEREAS, under the expert guidance of Germantown High School 38
Band Director Justin Harvison, this dynamic band has been inspired 39
to hone their craft through consistent practice and tenacious 40
effort, and their dedication has paid off in spades as they have 41
reached new heights in their ascent to the pinnacle of marching 42
band excellence; and 43

WHEREAS, the members of the Germantown Band will surely carry 44
the unforgettable memories they have made, as well as the lessons 45
of hard work and discipline they have learned, throughout their 46
lives as they remember the feeling of greatness that accompanies 47
being a champion; and 48
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to 49
recognize and commend Mississippi's extraordinary students, 50
especially those such as the Germantown High School Band, and it 51
is with profound pride that we congratulate this talented group of 52
young musicians, whose outstanding ability and commitment bring 53
honor to their school, their community and the State of 54
Mississippi: 55
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 56
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby 57
commend and congratulate the Germantown High School Band upon 58
winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) 59
Class 7A State Marching Band Championship, and extend best wishes 60
to the band for continued success in all their future endeavors. 61
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 62
furnished to the Germantown High School Band and to the members of 63
the Capitol Press Corps. 64
