AN ACT TO DESIGNATE A SEGMENT OF U.S. HIGHWAY 51 LOCATED IN 1

ROADS, STREETS OR BRIDGES ON THE DESIGNATED STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM 5
MAY NOT BE NAMED AFTER ELECTED OFFICIALS DURING THE TERM OF SUCH 6
PERSON'S OFFICE OR FOR 10 YEARS AFTER SERVING IN OFFICE; AND FOR 7
RELATED PURPOSES. 8
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI: 9
SECTION 1. (1) The segment of U.S. Highway 51 located in 10
Canton, Madison County, Mississippi, commencing at its 11
intersection with Corrections Drive and extending north for a 12
distance of one (1) mile to its intersection with South Union 13
Street, is designated and shall be known as the "Judge Lloyd 14
Gilmer Spivey III Memorial Highway." 15
(2) The Mississippi Department of Transportation shall erect 16
and maintain appropriate signs along and approaching the segment 17
of highway described in subsection (1) of this section. 18
SECTION 2. Section 65-3-38.1, Mississippi Code of 1972, is 19
amended as follows: 20

65-3-38.1. (1) * * * No legislation shall be enacted by the 21
Legislature naming any highway, road, street or bridge on the 22
designated state highway system after any person unless the 23
governing body of each county and municipality where the highway, 24
road, street or bridge is located duly adopts a resolution 25
requesting the Legislature to enact such legislation and files a 26
certified copy of such resolution with the Chairman of the Senate 27
or House Committee to which such legislation is referred. 28
( * * *2) The provisions of this section shall not apply to 29
Sections 65-7-151 and 65-7-153. 30
SECTION 3. This act shall take effect and be in force from 31
and after July 1, 2026. 32
