AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 63-35-7, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO 1
EXTEND THE DATE OF THE REPEALER ON THE PROVISION OF LAW REQUIRING 2
THE OPERATOR OF A FULLY AUTONOMOUS VEHICLE TO SUBMIT A LAW 3
ENFORCEMENT INTERACTION PLAN TO THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY; 4
AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 5
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI: 6
SECTION 1. Section 63-35-7, Mississippi Code of 1972, is 7
amended as follows: 8
63-35-7. (1) Prior to operating a fully autonomous vehicle 9
on the public roads of this state without a human driver, a person 10
shall submit a law enforcement interaction plan to the Department 11
of Public Safety that describes: 12
(a) How to communicate with a fleet support specialist 13
who is available during the times the vehicle is in operation; 14
(b) How to safely remove the fully autonomous vehicle 15
from the roadway and steps to safely tow the vehicle; 16
(c) How to recognize whether the fully autonomous 17
vehicle is in autonomous mode; 18

(d) Any additional information the manufacturer or 19
owner deems necessary regarding hazardous conditions or public 20
safety risks associated with the operation of the fully autonomous 21
vehicle; and 22
(e) Other elements determined to be necessary by the 23
Department of Public Safety and made publicly available on the 24
Department of Public Safety's website by July 1, 2023. 25
(2) If a person fails to submit a law enforcement 26
interaction plan prescribed by subsection (1) of this section, the 27
Department of Public Safety may immediately issue a 28
cease-and-desist letter prohibiting the operation of the person's 29
fully autonomous vehicle on public roads of this state until the 30
person submits the law enforcement interaction plan. 31
(3) This section shall stand repealed on July 1, * * * 2029. 32
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from 33
and after July 1, 2026. 34
