SENATE BILL NO. 3395
AN ACT TO RESTORE THE RIGHT OF SUFFRAGE TO MELVIN JACKSON OF 1
MONROE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 2
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI: 3
SECTION 1. The right of suffrage is hereby fully and 4
completely restored to Melvin Jackson of Monroe County, 5
Mississippi, who was disqualified as an elector on August 20, 6
2001, as a result of his conviction in Lowndes County for false 7
pretenses. He was convicted of the crime of false pretenses, and 8
on August 20, 2001, was sentenced to serve three (3) years 9
probation in the custody of the Mississippi Department of 10
Corrections. 11
A search of the Mississippi Department of Corrections records 12
did not produce a discharge affidavit, but Jackson has represented 13
that he completed all terms and conditions of his sentence. 14
The Legislature is informed that he has since conducted 15
himself as a law-abiding and honorable citizen in a good and 16
lawful manner. 17
