SENATE BILL NO. 3398

AN ACT TO RESTORE THE RIGHT OF SUFFRAGE TO JOSEPH JONES OF 1
JEFFERSON DAVIS COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 2
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI: 3
SECTION 1. The right of suffrage is hereby fully and 4
completely restored to Joseph Jones of Jefferson Davis County, 5
Mississippi, who was disqualified as an elector on June 28, 2002, 6
as a result of his convictions in Simpson County for two (2) 7
counts of armed robbery and one (1) count of grand larceny. As a 8
related matter, he was also convicted in Simpson County of 9
kidnapping. He was sentenced to serve four (4) terms in the 10
custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections: 11
(a) A ten-year term for the first charge of armed 12
robbery with a five-year term of post-release supervision; 13
(b) A ten-year term for the second charge of armed 14
robbery; 15
(c) A ten-year term for the charge of kidnapping; and 16
(d) A three-year term for the charge of grand larceny. 17

ST: Suffrage; restore to Joseph Jones.
The Mississippi Department of Corrections represents that the 18
terms were to be served concurrently. He was discharged from the 19
custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections on May 1, 20
2012, due to the expiration of his sentence. Upon representation 21
from the Mississippi Department of Corrections, he was discharged 22
from probation on March 4, 2012. He completed all terms and 23
conditions of his sentence. 24
The Legislature is informed that he has since conducted 25
himself as a law-abiding and honorable citizen in a good and 26
lawful manner. 27
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from 28
and after July 1, 2026. 29
