A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF "THE 1
MISSISSIPPI HILLS ROCKABILLY MUSIC HISTORICAL TRAIL" AND 2
DESIGNATING OFFICIAL "ROCKABILLY DISTRICTS" IN CERTAIN NORTHEAST 3
MISSISSIPPI COMMUNITIES. 4
WHEREAS, the State of Mississippi is internationally 5
recognized as the birthplace of America's most influential musical 6
traditions, including blues, gospel, country, and rock and roll; 7
and 8
WHEREAS, the Hills Region of Northeast Mississippi played a 9
defining role in the emergence of rockabilly music, a uniquely 10
American art form that blended country rhythms with 11
rhythm‑and‑blues energy, shaping the sound that would launch the 12
careers of countless artists and influence generations to come; 13
and 14
WHEREAS, communities throughout the Mississippi Hills, 15
including Tupelo, Saltillo, Baldwyn, Booneville, Corinth, New 16
Albany, Pontotoc, Amory, Ripley, Guntown, and Mantachie, hold deep 17
cultural, historical, and artistic ties to the origins and 18
evolution of rockabilly music; and 19

WHEREAS, these communities, in partnership with the newly 20
formed North Mississippi Rockabilly Foundation, seek to preserve, 21
interpret, and promote this musical heritage through a coordinated 22
regional initiative; and 23
WHEREAS, the creation of the Mississippi Hills Rockabilly 24
Music Historical Trail will establish a unified network of 25
historical markers, murals, interpretive exhibits, public art, and 26
cultural programming that celebrates the artists, venues, stories, 27
and traditions that shaped rockabilly music in the Hills Region; 28
and 29
WHEREAS, the designation of official Rockabilly Districts 30
within each of the aforementioned communities will support 31
heritage tourism, stimulate economic development, encourage 32
artistic expression, and strengthen regional identity; and 33
WHEREAS, this initiative aligns with the goals of America's 34
250th anniversary by honoring Mississippi's contributions to the 35
nation's cultural legacy and by fostering public engagement with 36
the arts and humanities: 37
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF 38
MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That 39
in order to demonstrate Mississippi's commitment to preserving and 40
promoting its musical heritage, we do hereby recognize the 41
establishment of "The Mississippi Hills Rockabilly Music 42
Historical Trail" under the auspices of the Northeast Mississippi 43
Rockabilly Heritage Foundation and designate official "Rockabilly 44

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That we do hereby encourage 48
collaboration among local governments, cultural organizations, 49
tourism partners and the Northeast Mississippi Rockabilly Heritage 50
Foundation to advance this initiative and ensure its long-term 51
success. 52
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to 53
the Mississippi Division of Tourism, the Northeast Mississippi 54
Rockabilly Heritage Foundation and each of the above listed 55
communities and made available to the Capitol Press Corps. 56
