A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMEMORATING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF 1
JACKSON STATE UNIVERSITY TIGER MASCOT DAVID "WAVEE DAVE" CHAMBERS 2
AND HIS COMMITMENT TO HIS ALMA MATER AND COMMUNITY ON THE OCCASION 3
OF THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF KAPPA ALPHA PSI FRATERNITY 4
ON MARCH 17, 2026. 5
WHEREAS, David "Wavee Dave" Chambers, a 1988 graduate of 6
Jackson State University, embodied Tiger Pride for over two 7
decades as the university's celebrated mascot, captivating fans 8
with spirited performances, unicycle antics, and enthusiastic 9
leadership that energized generations of students, alumni, and 10
supporters; and 11
WHEREAS, Mr. Chambers' creative and dynamic presence on the 12
field helped build a culture of spirit and excellence at Jackson 13
State University, inspiring the formation of the "Baby Tigers" and 14
motivating young performers to pursue both academic success and 15
passionate representation of "Thee Tiger Legacy"; and 16
WHEREAS, Mr. Chambers graciously continued to bring joy and 17
excitement to fans through his mascot role for more than 20 years, 18
even as health challenges emerged, demonstrating unwavering 19

commitment to his alma mater and the broader Jackson community; 20
and 21
WHEREAS, David "Wavee Dave" Chambers' life and legacy stand 22
as enduring symbols of spirit, service, and inspiration, 23
exemplifying the values of leadership, perseverance, and community 24
engagement that reflect the best traditions of Jackson State 25
University and the State of Mississippi; and 26
WHEREAS, the 75th Anniversary of the Delta Delta Chapter of 27
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., chartered at Jackson State 28
University, presents an appropriate occasion to honor individuals 29
whose contributions have enriched the cultural, educational, and 30
civic fabric of Mississippi: 31
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF 32
MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That 33
we do hereby honor and recognize the famous Tiger Mascot David 34
"Wavee Dave" Chambers for his significant contributions to the 35
heritage and spirit of Jackson State University and the State of 36
Mississippi. 37
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That March 17, 2026, is designated as 38
"Wavee Dave Day" in the State of Mississippi in tribute to his 39
enduring legacy, and that citizens are encouraged to observe this 40
day with appreciation for his influence on generations of Tiger 41
fans and Mississippians. 42
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to 43
members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., on Kappa Day at the 44
