A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING YASMINE 1
WARE OF MADISON, MISSISSIPPI, UPON HER SELECTION AS A 2025 HARRY 2
S. TRUMAN SCHOLAR, THE PRESTIGIOUS GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM 3
FOR STUDENTS INTERESTED IN PUBLIC SERVICE. 4
WHEREAS, Yasmine Ware of Madison, Mississippi, has been named 5
a 2025 Harry S. Truman Scholar, one of the nation's most 6
prestigious honors for students committed to public service; and 7
WHEREAS, a graduate of Madison Central High School, Yasmine's 8
family hails from Indianola, Mississippi, in the heart of the 9
Delta, a heritage that inspires her work to preserve and share 10
Mississippi's stories. She is a senior at the University of 11
Mississippi, studying International Studies, Chinese, and Global 12
Security Studies, and is a member of the Sally McDonnell Barksdale 13
Honors College and a Stamps Scholar; and 14
WHEREAS, in 2019, she founded Yasmine's Warehouse, a 15
multimedia platform that uses storytelling to explore how identity 16
and environment shape our lives. Through the platform, she 17
highlights the voices of Mississippians and people across the 18

globe, connecting local experiences to broader social contexts and 19
policy; and 20
WHEREAS, her documentary, The Mound Bayou Memoirs, and 21
forthcoming podcast examine the legacy of Mound Bayou, one of 22
America's first all-Black towns, showing how preserving history 23
strengthens civic pride and community resilience. She has 24
presented her research on cultural preservation at Harvard Law 25
School, demonstrating the national significance of her work. On 26
campus, Yasmine has served in leadership roles, including the 27
Associated Student Body (ASB) President's Cabinet, The Columns 28
Society, and founded OneUM, a student initiative promoting 29
dialogue and unity; and 30
WHEREAS, Yasmine has gained national and international 31
experience, interning with the U.S. House Committee on Homeland 32
Security, studying nuclear disarmament at the United Nations, 33
exploring post-WWII memorialization in Germany and Japan, and 34
examining nuclear strategy at the North Atlantic Treaty 35
Organization (NATO) Headquarters in Belgium. She has reported as 36
a media correspondent at the White House and is the winner of The 37
New York Times Podcast Contest for her narrative-driven advocacy; 38
and 39
WHEREAS, as Mississippi's 2025 Truman Scholar, Yasmine was 40
selected as the state's top nominee for her leadership, academic 41
excellence, and commitment to public service. She is one of 54 42
Truman Scholars nationwide in 2025, each chosen for their 43

potential to make a lasting impact through public service. The 44
scholarship provides up to $30,000.00 to support graduate study 45
and was established by the U.S. Congress as the official federal 46
memorial to President Harry S. Truman; and 47
WHEREAS, following graduation, Yasmine plans to spend a year 48
in Washington, D.C., and a year in China before attending law 49
school. Jasmine intends to become a lawyer specializing in 50
heritage preservation, development, and security strategy, using 51
her Mississippi Delta roots and international experience to guide 52
policy, strengthen communities, and ensure that history informs 53
the future; and 54
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize a young 55
Mississippian who has brought honor to her school and university, 56
her community and to the State of Mississippi: 57
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF 58
MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That 59
we do hereby commend and congratulate Yasmine Ware of Madison, 60
Mississippi, upon her selection as a 2025 Harry S. Truman Scholar, 61
the Prestigious Graduate Scholarship Program for students 62
interested in public service, and recognize her commitment to make 63
a lasting impact on her community and state. 64
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to 65
Yasmine Ware and her family and made available to the Capitol 66
Press Corps. 67
