A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE SIMPSON COUNTY 1
ACADEMY COUGARS BOYS CROSS-COUNTRY TEAM AND COACH OF THE YEAR 2
ANGEL OVERSTREET FOR BACK-TO-BACK STATE MAIS 4A DIVISION 1 STATE 3
CHAMPIONSHIPS AND FOR BEING UNDEFEATED IN 2025. 4
WHEREAS, the Simpson County Academy Cougars Boys 5
Cross-Country Team went undefeated against all MAIS schools in the 6
2025 season; and 7
WHEREAS, they were ranked in the top 25 in Mississippi for 8
all schools, public, private and homeschool; and 9
WHEREAS, this team ended the 2025 season as the MAIS 4A 10
Division 1 back-to-back State Champions, outscoring the 11
second-place team by 29 points; and 12
WHEREAS, with an impressive 17:57 time average, the Cougars 13
were the fastest team average across the entire MAIS meet. Jayden 14
Smith finished second individually for the second-consecutive 15
year; and 16
WHEREAS, this team placed four runners in the 2025 top 10. 17
Members of this back-to-back State Championship team are: Jayden 18
Smith, Denver Carter, Zeke Scallorn, Thomas Martin, Brason Fox, 19

WHEREAS, Coach Angel Overstreet has been named Coach of the 22
Year for the last two years; and 23
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these 24
student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their 25
community and to the State of Mississippi: 26
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF 27
MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the 28
Simpson County Academy Cougars Boys Cross-Country Team and Coach 29
of the Year Angel Overstreet for back-to-back State MAIS 4A 30
Division 1 State Championships and for being undefeated in 2025, 31
and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best 32
wishes for future success. 33
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to 34
Coach of the Year Angel Overstreet and Simpson County Academy 35
Headmaster John Shows for the team, forwarded to the Simpson 36
Academy Board of Trustees, and made available to the Capitol Press 37
Corps. 38
