A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING SIMPSON COUNTY 1
ACADEMY'S LILLY OVERBY AS THREE-TIME CROSS-COUNTRY STATE CHAMPION 2
AND 2024-2025 GATORADE MISSISSIPPI GIRLS CROSS-COUNTRY PLAYER OF 3
THE YEAR. 4
WHEREAS, we join the students of Simpson Academy and the 5
citizens of Simpson County in celebrating the cross-country 6
accomplishments of Lilly Overby, a Senior Cross-Country runner for 7
the Simpson County Academy Cougars; and 8
WHEREAS, Lilly Overby has won the MAIS 4A Division I State 9
Cross-Country Title for the past three years; and 10
WHEREAS, running isn't just a sport for Lilly Overby, it's a 11
passion, a purpose, and a way of life. The Simpson Academy senior 12
has poured her heart into the sport, earning recognition that 13
places her among the best in the nation; and 14
WHEREAS, Gatorade recently announced that Lilly Overby is the 15
2024-2025 Gatorade Mississippi Girls Cross-Country Player of the 16
Year, a first for Simpson County Academy. What an incredible 17
accomplishment for this talented young lady and for the community 18

WHEREAS, Lilly has already made her mark as a three-time 20
Cross-Country State Champion, and now she carries the distinction 21
of being the top female runner in Mississippi. Her dedication, 22
discipline, and love for the sport have set her apart; and 23
WHEREAS, "I owe so much to my coach, Dr. Angel Overstreet. 24
She set the bar high and believed in me. Our team is truly like a 25
family. We support and encourage one another every step of the 26
way," Lilly shared; and 27
WHEREAS, Lilly is the daughter of Paul and Sarah Overby of 28
Magee, Mississippi, and she continues to make her hometown proud; 29
and 30
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this 31
student athlete who has brought honor to her school, her hometown 32
community and to the State of Mississippi: 33
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF 34
MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Simpson 35
County Academy's Lilly Overby as three-time Cross-Country State 36
Champion and 2024-2025 Gatorade Mississippi Girls Cross-Country 37
Player of the Year, and extend to Lilly and her family our best 38
wishes for future athletic and academic success. 39
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to 40
Lilly Overby, forwarded to Simpson Academy Cross-Country Coach Dr. 41
Angel Overstreet and Headmaster John Shows, and be made available 42
to the Capitol Press Corps. 43
