SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 108
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE BROOKHAVEN 1
ACADEMY LADY COUGARS GIRLS FAST-PITCH SOFTBALL TEAM AND COACH LISA 2
COVINGTON FOR SWEEPING RIVAL SILLIMAN FOR THE 2026 MAIS 4A-D3 3
GIRLS FAST-PITCH SOFTBALL TITLE. 4
WHEREAS, the Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars are the MAIS 5
4A-D3 State Champions. The Lady Cougars finished with a dominate 6
7-0 win over Silliman in Game 2, bringing home the title once 7
again; and 8
WHEREAS, Brookhaven Academy junior pitcher Madelynn Lambert 9
was the star in Brookhaven Academy's title sweep of Silliman, 10
going 5-for-7 at the plate over the course of two nights with a 11
pair of RBIs and two runs. After the final game 10-0 mercy-rule, 12
Lambert took over in the circle for the game final 7-0 13
series-ender, facing 23 batters and throwing 52 strikes on 93 14
pitches; and 15
WHEREAS, all the Lady Cougars were locked in, all nine 16
players in the lineup recorded a hit, and the final stat line was 17
seven runs on 15 hits with one error. Behind Madelynn Lambert, 18
Caroline Case, Peyton Davis, Swayze Poole and Ryleigh Purdy shared 19

a 2-for-4 stat line. Alayna Daigle, Madelynn Lambert, Swayze 20
Poole, Mirriam Wallace and Whitney Grace Whittington drove in 21
runs. Six seniors played their last softball game in Cougar Blue: 22
Morgan Chemin, Alayna Daigle, Annabel Gaskin, Ryleigh Purdy, 23
Mirriam Wallace and Whitney Grace Whittington. "I'm happy we 24
achieved this, but I am a little sad I have to leave my new 25
friends, my new family. The whole team is just a family, and I 26
really enjoyed it," said Ryleigh Purdy; and 27
WHEREAS, the Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars Fast-Pitch 28

WHEREAS, all the things that happen when a team wins a state 38
title happened on the field at the championship game. The Lady 39
Cougars fired off hand-held confetti cannons. There were 40
high-fives, cheers, proud families. The Brookhaven Academy mom 41
squad lined up across the circle in an orderly fashion and 42
directed a half-hour of team photography. Banners unfurled, and a 43
trophy was distributed; and 44

Championship.
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these 45
student-athletes who have brought honor to their school, their 46
community and to the State of Mississippi: 47
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF 48
MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the 49
Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars Girls Fast-Pitch Softball Team and 50
Coach Lisa Covington for sweeping rival Silliman for the 2026 MAIS 51
4A-D3 Girls Fast-Pitch Softball Title, and extend to the team, 52
coaches, faculty, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future 53
championships. 54
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to 55
Head Coach Lisa Covington for the team, forwarded to Brookhaven 56
Academy Head of School Jason Case and the Board of Trustees, and 57
made available to the Capitol Press Corps. 58
