SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 110
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE 2025 WEST 1
UNION EAGLES BASEBALL TEAM AND COACH ASHLEY RUSSELL FOR WINNING 2
THEIR FIRST-EVER MHSAA CLASS 1A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. 3
WHEREAS, the West Union High School Eagles won their 4
first-ever MHSAA Class 1A Baseball State Championship in May 2025, 5
sweeping Taylorsville in the championship series; and 6
WHEREAS, West Union won the decisive Game 2 with a 4-1 score 7
on May 23, 2025, following a 4-2 victory in Game 1. Senior 8
pitcher Grant Martin was named the series MVP; and 9
WHEREAS, the Eagles, who finished the 2025 season with a 10
21-31 record, clinched the title with stellar defense, including a 11
diving catch by center fielder Mack Wallis to end the game. This 12
marked the team's first baseball state title in program history; 13
and 14
WHEREAS, the Eagles are coached by Ashley Russell, who is in 15
his 19th season; and 16
WHEREAS, the 2025 West Union High School Eagles Championship 17
Baseball Team include: Jaxon Herod, Braxton Burks, Mack Wallis, 18

Henry, Jackson Dix, Caleb Mills, Reed Cooper, Scout Reaves and 22
Jake Foreman, and Coach Ashley Russell; and 23
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these 24
student-athletes who have brought honor to their school, their 25
community and to the State of Mississippi: 26
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF 27
MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the 2025 28
West Union Eagles Baseball Team and Coach Ashley Russell for 29
winning their first-ever MHSAA Class 1A State Championship and 30
extend to the players, coaches, parents and sponsors our best 31
wishes for future championships. 32
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to 33
Coach Ashley Russell and West Union High School Principal Troy 34
Trout for the team, forwarded to the Union County Board of 35
Education and made available to the Capitol Press Corps. 36
