SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 113
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE EAST RANKIN 1
ACADEMY SHOOTING SPORTS TEAM AND COACH MATTHEW MILLER FOR WINNING 2
THEIR SIXTH CONSECUTIVE MISSISSIPPI SCHOLASTIC SHOOTING PROGRAM 3
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. 4
WHEREAS, the East Rankin Shooting Sports Team has won the 5
2025 Mississippi Scholastic Shooting Program (MSSP) Championship, 6
which is its sixth consecutive State Championship; and 7
WHEREAS, in a two-day shoot, the MSSP State Championship 8
welcomed the top 150 Sporting Clay, Skeet and Trap shooters 9
between seventh and twelfth grade. The Foundation for Mississippi 10
Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks awarded $12,000.00 in scholarships 11
to the tournament winners. East Rankin Academy's Shooting Sports 12
Team took home the State Title for the sixth consecutive year and 13
brought home $7,500.00 of the scholarships given; and 14
WHEREAS, the following students from East Rankin were 15
recognized for their sharp shooting in the state tournament: 16
Olivia Griffing, Garrett Barham, Gunner Barham, Irby Rawson, 17
Branton Miller, Seth Peden, Peyson Knight, Andrew Stevens, AJ 18

McIlwain, Dylan Brady, Cole Parker, Karson Williams, Max Peden, 19
Ethan Brown and Bentley Long; and Coach Matthew Miller; and 20
WHEREAS, the Mississippi Scholastic Shooting Program (MSSP) 21
is a team-based, youth development program that uses the shotgun 22
sports of 5-Stand, Skeet and Sporting Clays to instill life skills 23
such as discipline, safety, teamwork, ethics, self-confidence, and 24
other life values. The program utilizes these disciplines to 25
teach hunting skills through the safe use of hunting equipment, 26
including firearms, and their relationship to hunting situations. 27
Team members can participate in any or all three of the clay 28
target disciplines: 5-Stand, Skeet and Sporting Clays; and 29
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this team 30
of student-athletes, who have worked so diligently to bring honor 31
for six years to their school, their community and to the State of 32
Mississippi: 33
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF 34
MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the East 35
Rankin Academy Shooting Sports Team and Coach Matthew Miller for 36
winning their sixth consecutive Mississippi Scholastic Shooting 37
Program State Championship, and extend the best wishes of the 38
Mississippi Senate to the team members, coaches, parents and 39
sponsors for future success. 40
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to 41
Coach Matthew Miller and East Rankin Academy Head of School Robyn 42
