SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 117
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE BOONEVILLE 1
HIGH SCHOOL LADY BLUE DEVILS GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH 2
MICHAEL SMITH FOR WINNING BACK-TO-BACK MHSAA CLASS 3A STATE 3
CHAMPIONSHIPS. 4
WHEREAS, on March 7, 2026, the Booneville High School Lady 5
Blue Devils Girls Basketball Team won the MHSAA Class 3A Girls 6
Basketball State Championship in 2026, capping a 25-4 season. 7
This win marks back-to-back state championships for the team, 8
which has secured multiple titles recently; and 9
WHEREAS, Booneville took control in the opening half of the 10
MHSAA Class 3A Girls Basketball Championship and held on to beat 11
Belmont High School 54-31. Booneville led 13-6 after one quarter, 12
stretched the margin to 31-15 by halftime and never let Belmont 13
get closer than 16 in the second half. The decisive stretch came 14
in the second quarter. Booneville turned a 13-7 lead into a 22-7 15
advantage on baskets from Raylee Jones and Lamaya Southward, plus 16
two free throws from Adler Doran. Southward then hit a 3-pointer 17
late in the half as Booneville carried a 16-point lead to the 18
break. Southward led Booneville with 20 points and 5 rebounds, 19

while Jones added 11 points and 7 rebounds. Kellan Johnson scored 20
5 points and grabbed 9 rebounds, and Booneville finished with a 21
42-30 rebounding edge while going 19 of 20 from the foul line; and 22
WHEREAS, Lamaya Southward was named 2026 State Championship 23
MVP and MHSAA Miss 3A Basketball; and 24
WHEREAS, Head Coach Michael Smith has led the team to 25
multiple championships. The team has established themselves as a 26
dominant force in Mississippi 3A basketball, winning four out of 27
five recent championships; and 28
WHEREAS, Booneville High School 2025-2026 Varsity Girls 29
Championship Basketball Roster includes: Ki'raeah Philpot, Adler 30
Doran, Jazz Philpot, Makylah Pippins, Logann Donahue, Kellan 31
Johnson, Lyric Perry, Peyton Nunn, Lamaya Southward, Rayne 32
Alexander, Bella Nunley, Zyria Floyd, Raylee Jones, Cameya 33
Hampton, Kennedi Shelley, Mylee Stacks, Ayla Hinds, and Alexa 34
Lopez; Head Coach Michael Smith, and Assistant Coaches Chip 35
Johnson, Micah Moment, Bryant Tynes, Maria Mauney, and Ava Kathryn 36
Smith; and 37
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these 38
student-athletes who have brought honor to their school, their 39
community and to the State of Mississippi: 40
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF 41
MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the 42
Booneville High School Lady Blue Devils Girls Basketball Team and 43
Head Coach Michael Smith for winning back-to-back MHSAA Class 3A 44

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to 47
Coach Michael Smith and Principal Brian Windham for the team, 48
forwarded to the Prentiss County Board of Education and be made 49
available to the Capitol Press Corps. 50
