SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 119
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING TISHOMINGO COUNTY 1
HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL STANDOUT MEG MOORE AS "GATORADE MISSISSIPPI 2
GIRLS BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR FOR 2026." 3
WHEREAS, in its 41 years of celebrating the nation's best 4
high school athletes, Gatorade on March 13, 2026, announced Meg 5
Moore of Tishomingo County High School is the "2025-2026 Gatorade 6
Mississippi Girls Basketball Player of the Year;" and 7
WHEREAS, Gatorade Player of the Year is the top honor in high 8
school sports, celebrating the nation's best high school athletes 9
for their excellence in sports, academics and community service. 10
The award recognizes Meg as Mississippi's best high school girls 11
basketball player, and she joins an elite legacy that spans 12
professional athletes and coaches to CEOs; and 13
WHEREAS, the six-foot-one sophomore guard led the Lady Braves 14
(28-2) to the 2025 4A State Championship. Moore averaged 23.3 15
points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.2 blocks, 16
sinking 87.2 percent of her free throws. The MVP of the 4A State 17
Championship game averaged 25.5 points and 10 rebounds a game in 18

the Final Four while shooting 60 percent from the floor and 19
12-for-12 at the free throw line; and 20
WHEREAS, Tishomingo County girls basketball coach John 21
Strickland knows the importance of talented players. He also 22
knows how crucial it is for talented players to show up in big 23
games. And that's exactly what took place for the Strickland's 24
Lady Braves' squad after Meg Moore's team-high 20 points. 25
Tishomingo County defeated Louisville, 64-29, at the Mississippi 26
Coliseum on March 6, 2026; and 27
WHEREAS, an active participant in Tishomingo County High 28
School basketball team's Service to Others project, Moore has 29
volunteered locally supporting county youth programs. She has 30
also donated her time to a Trunk or Treat event, providing candy 31
and basketball counsel; and 32
WHEREAS, Meg Moore has maintained an A average in the 33
classroom. She will begin her junior year of high school this 34
fall; and 35
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this 36
incredible milestone in the career of a talented student-athlete 37
whose commitment to excellence brings honor to her school, her 38
community and to the State of Mississippi: 39
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF 40
MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Tishomingo 41
County High School Basketball standout Meg Moore as the "2026 42
Gatorade Mississippi Girls Basketball Player of the Year for 43
